The man who was brought to eventually replace him Cesk Fabregas.
 
Many people said me Yttergard Jenssen... My advice is don´t try a real player, try a regen... In my save (Man Utd, June 2020) I´ve a regen, 24 year-old, I´ve bought him for 4M (when he was 18) and he is what I want, an excellent playmaker, like Xavi, Iniesta or Fabregas
 
Yettegard Jenssen is in my Game, the best passer along with Xavi and Iniesta so... if you want one cheap and for now try him, or buy Thiago Alcantra
 
Yttengard Jenssen. He's not a "showman", but he gets the work done: always seems to react well to teamtalk, always learning new skills, being a "swiss clock" for me, always performing above 7.

Scholes can play on until he's 50 if he really wanted...so it could be a long-term investment
 
Besides the phenomenally obvious answer of regens, Fabregas imo.
