Player potential

Hey guys I have this player called Donis Advijaj who i'm sure alot of you are familiar with for being a "wonderkid" but in my Schalke save he only has a two and a half star potential.. this confuses me because he has a release clause of 49 million and his potential is quite average. I'm fairly new to Fm so sorry if i've been doing something stupid but I'm really confused haha. Thanks.

Release clauses don't affect how much potential a player has. I mean if you really wanted to you could throw a $115 million release clause on your worst under-18 player
