Player promises - champions league football

Hi,

i am playing as Inter and got knocked out of the europa league and am currently just missing out on a champions league spot in 4th place with about 10 games to go.

i promised Icardi i would make champions league football as he wanted to leave at the start of the game with Chelsea interested. Say i was to miss out on the champions league spot, do you guys know of any way to keep Icardi or would i have to sell?

Anyone had similar situations?

Granted he would be unhappy at the club due to missing out on Champions League football you actually wouldn't need to sell him unless Chelsea, the club you state was interested in his services, make a bid for him. I'm almost certain he'd become happy again if he still has at least three or so years remaining on his contract so you wouldn't need to worry about losing Icardi on a free.
