Player roles questions

Hi there, I recently bought FM14, and all my easy success gained in the previous versions is gone. I now realise I'm a noob
So, the best formation for my Italy squad, it's a 4-3-2-1 (None of my players plays very good in CAM or DM position, but i have some good IF).
Now, what roles should i assign them?
I thinked about:
GK-WB(s),CB(d),CB(d),WB(s)-BTB(s),DLP(d),AP(s)-IF(a),IF(a)-CF(a)
Will this work?

Each player has a report made by your assistant...inside the report you see what is his best role...you start from there...
