Players being cup-tied

I am about to sell Anelka to Man City for 30m in the january transfer window. However, if I was to sign a player who has played in the UEFA Cup would they be cup tied for the champions league?

If memory serves me correct, the answer would be no they are not cup tied. The cup-tied bit only applies to the specific competition and not Europe as a whole. Its the same principle as the domestic cups. A player having played in the Carling Cup can play in the FA Cup cos they are 2 seperate competitions. I Think.
