What is the difference between the two? The rating is based on the attributes but what is the more meaningful stat? For instance, I've seen players with a high CA but a lower rating, and vice verca. Which stat equates to the better player?

Sometimes it all depends on the reputation of the team. If you're United and you try to sign someone like Arshavin, it might say he is a decent signing, but if you tried to sign Arshavin with West Ham or someone like that, it would most probably say he is a fantastic signing or 'a player of the highest calibre'.
