Hello all, i recently switched to FM 2011 after 10 years playing EA's Manager, but i am facing a difficulty concerning the players level.

In Fifa Manager, you can get to know a player's level because it is displayed, but in FM 2011 i just cant seem to know :s it makes it harder to buy and discover good players.

Can anyone help please?

fifa manager is just like fifa were a players level is 86 overall but football manager you have to scout and find what you want in a player

so basically i have to search depending on which attribute i want? its not like summed up or shown somewhere?

Players value is often a good indicator......

Obviously young wonderkids and unknown gems won't be highly valued, making scouting them/discovering them all the more rewarding.

Indeed - just like real life. How does, for example, Arsene Wenger find the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Carlos Vela, Alex Song et al when they are kids? Scouting. Same here.

Send your scouts all overt the world - when they find a particularly tasty player it appears in your news. If you need someone urgently, go to Player Search, use the filter who what you want, right click the players name, select Scout Player and Report Card Only. Within 1-2 days the scout reports back - read his report.

haha so no players level :P just value :P

What are yall talkin bout?
In "Report" there's a scale consisting of 4 or 5 stars, and there's Current ability and Potential Ability.
Obviously good young players will have half a star, maybe a star and a half filled, and if you see three and a half stars filled for Potential ability that's a gem player. For example Fabregas has 3,5 stars filled. Messi and Ronaldo have 4 stars.
These stars measuring the Ability of a player are like player's level...

but you know that the stars are always compared to the level of your best players (e. g. robert pires would get more stars at blackpool than at manchester united)... plus the stars only show the CA and PA (some players with a lower CA/PA can be better than players with a higher CA/PA because of the combination of good attributes).

Also the scout can be wrong/inaccurate in terms of his assessment of the CA and PA ;)

@OP - something as complex as 'how good' a player is cannot be condensed into one number. How good a player is often a matter of opinion or preference of a certain tactical style. This is part of what being a good manager is about - being able to identify the right player for your specific circumstance :)

Well yeah, it's... y'know... realistic.

Has others have said, star ratings are given in scout reports but they're only approximations and relative to the current strength of your squad.

Also value is the be all and end all. It entirely possible for a very good player to have a relatively low value. There are many factors - country/league he is playing in, how close his contract is to end, age ect.

of course he can. "selbstredend"! i wouldn't trust all of my gladbach scouts too much - just like in real life...
