Players & Staff not appearing?

Hey, I'm a bit of a FM newbie here, so sorry if this sounds totally 100% stupid.

When searching for certain players and staff, they don't appear. I've checked time and time again and I am spelling names right etc.

Prime example:
Silvino Louro
Claudio Maiani

Is there the possibility that I've somehow disabled some clubs or staff etc?

Like I said, I'm a bit of a noob so I don't quite know.
Where would I go about checking stuff like that?

If you want to see if you have a large database just load your game and the screen that comes up as soon as its loaded it will tell you in the bottom right area, may be in a different area but its the bottom right on mine.
