Bit late really with the imminent release of FM2015 but hey ho. I started playing 14 again recently and came up with this tactic.

The basis is the modern 4231, with 2 more defensively disciplined midfielders, and 3 attackers, however all midfielders are set to playmaker roles to ensure that there is a threat from all of them. The width is provided by the CWB's who will act as wingers, while the DLP's drop deeper and cover them. The team work hard for the opening, and work hard with their movement.

Anyways, some results from the current season & other screenshots...

Looks great! :) Seems to fit manchester united with all their playmakers atm, so will test with them, a few questions however will be asked.
What about training? And the OI's?

No OI's. The shape of the team is probably it's biggest asset in defence. By dropping the defence deeper it minimises the space behind where usually you could get opened up

Training...

ill try it with spurs second season and let you no

Spurs are probably ideal. Lamela & Eriksen are exactly the sort of players you want in the advanced role, whereas Dembele & Paulinho are ideal for the deep roles. Athleticism is almost as important as creativity.

More results, unbeaten start to this campaign...

Here's a breakdown of a textbook goal with this formation...

View attachment 333565

Here you can see the basic attacking shape. The CWB's press right up in line with the striker and will provide the width. The 2 DLP's come and support the CB's in possession, but as they are playmakers, they can pick the pass through the lines to the advanced players.

View attachment 333564

This is where the attack starts, the ball through to the AP's. The central AP can drop deep to pick the ball up as he has the support function. From here, he can play it back to the CB's or DLP's, he can hold it up, or he can play in his fellow AP's either side of him.

He opts to play it to his fellow AP immediately, creating a quick transition and completely taking their midfield out of the game with one passing move. Now, their defence has a problem. Do they allow the AP to run at them and create a chance? Or (as you can see) does the opposing CB step out of the line to close him down. In the latter scenario you can see that this provides space for the AF to look for the ball through behind the defence, giving him a 1v1 against the keeper.

The AP plays it to the striker first time, perhaps a little rushed and he is closed down very quickly. But the damage has already been done as the opposing CB has been brought out of position, and the opposing FB cannot cover because he is being dragged wide by the CWB.

The ball is recovered immediately by another AP. Because he is a playmaker, he will look to thread the ball into the space to create the chance.

View attachment 333560

He is crowded out so he cannot pass to the AF, so he cleverly knocks the ball back to his fellow AP who can now play the AF in.

The AF is in, clear of defenders, in a prime position to shoot.

He puts it in the top corner. Notice the DLP's position - ready to recycle possession, or ready to cover the CWB's and stop them countering.

Went 2-1 up against Arsenal, but some poor defensive errors led to their comeback - Zouma, who is on loan, dallied on the ball on the edge of the area and was dispossessed for two goals. The third, he misjudged a long ball. The result obviously knocked confidence and led to us only drawing the next 2 games. The friendly was arranged with Arnold to get the team firing again, and the following results reflect the boost in confidence.

gotta say really enjoying this tactic, playing as utd (yeah i know utd) won the league 1st & 2nd season, De Gea with golden gloves both seasons and top scorers, januzaj is a beast. TOP TACTIC
