I'm beginning to think some instructions don't do anything. Just played United who have 1 upfront and I had him set to tight marking and close down he scored due to long ball coz he wasn't being marked at all. And depay who everyone knows cuts in and shoots with his right foot so I set it to show onto weaker foot, half of the highlights were him cutting in on his 'stronger' foot and shooting all gone over but that's not the point.

Well think about the following example: I put you Darren151991 as a cb in an imaginary team. I then instruct you to mark Icardi (who usually ends up at AI Utd in FM17) tightly and close down. Do you think you ll be very effective?

What Im obviously alluding to is that everything, including instructions, is relative. Depends on many factors including which team you are, the stats of your players etc. Also, isn't Depay two footed?

Then you'd be thinking wrong. Just because you set tight marking, doesn't mean the striker can't lose your defenders. Same with the Depay example. Your defender may have tried to do that, but could he match Depay's Agility and Acceleration? Did he close down too much or attempt tackles he couldn't win?

Review the incidents first before just pointing fingers at the game.

i can understand why your having problems with Depay, playing as MUFC and i hear and see it that he can destroy teams on his day but can go missing for games too.

In relation to the instructions, you can tight mark all you like but if the striker has anticipation, off the ball and decisions with a team who trys killer balls your going to get caught out.

If your defender doesn't match up very well against the opposing attacking player - physically, as well as skills like Marking, Decisions, Composure - then Tight Marking is probably actually detrimental. Showing him onto his weaker foot as well is only going to be so effective if the defending player doesn't have the skillset to force that.

Just mimicking what's already been said, but if defending was really that easy, would one footed players such as Arjen Robben be so successful?

Exactly. Agility and acceleration.

Do you all save tight marking for penalty box assassin types, great finishers but not necessarily all that agile or quick? I tend to use it for that and the Miroslav Klose aerial threat types.

If Depay fails to cut onto his stronger foot, it probably isn't a highlight. Meaning: you are only seeing the cases where the defense was compromised. Basically, if you played the same game twice, with same players, different instructions, you could start to tell if anything differed.
