what is the best formation to play for portsmouth
i am currently playing 442 and struggling at the moment with it
i then switched to a diamond 442 and not having much luck with that either:O

Teams don't have best formations, look at your squad and identify where your strongest and design a tactic from that.I tend to go the other way though and choose my tactics and buy my players to fit into the way i like to play. You need to STOP tinkering with your tactics and give your team time to gel into a cohesive unit,if your not confident in your own tactics then download one of the many successful ones on here.Good Luck!

post a screenhot of your current screen with starting eleven`s positioning ; P
we might just help you then

As a pompey fan myself I'm willin to help you out here, but like JP said, you need to design a tactic for your strongest part of your team, if you can put up a screenshot of your team then I could help you more, just print screen, save it on paint, then on the reply bit on here, click "Go Advanced" then click the little paper clip icon along the top bar when your in the "Go Advanced" bit, then just browse up the picture and your done :) Hope this helped mate.

if youre on a first season with pompey , i`d go for . This is what almost always try to make work when im playing weaker teams. Setting are pretty aatacking but if you are interested i might upload you this tactic template.
----------ST-------------
AML.......................AMR..
----------MC-------------
----DM----------DM------
DL---dC_------DC----DR--
---------GK--------------

Ive had many experiences on my time of FM, but when i have played Pompey id generally say that with the squad from the start i had most success with a very defensive formation. I think i played something like this:

-----------------Crouchy-------------------
-----------------Kranjcar-------------------

Beljadj----------------------------------Utaka
--------------Davis----Basinas-------------
Hermantor----Distin----KABOUL!!!----Gleno
------------------James-----------------

Then after some signings i kind of revamped the defence a bit, got in some decent DM's and then i had a decent season. Mind you that was my experience with them. You may find something else works. GL.

Tbh mate, you'r prob best going 4-5-1 with an AMC, AML and an AMR and play crouch up top, your AMC needs to be able to cross well so Crouch gets chances.

Im in my 4th season with pompey now and doing very well, having won the euro cup twice and the euro super cup once. Im now on my third formation, one which really suits my playing style, however in my 1st and 2nd season i had a formation that suited the players I had at my disposal. Like the one below:
CROUCH
LEONARDO UTAKA/PENNANT

MULLINS & BASINAS
APPIAH
BELHADJ, KABOUL, VAN DAMME, JOHNSON
JAMES

I brought in Leonardo (I sold Krancjar) for £4.6 million, Appiah on a free and Van Damme for £3.2 million. In the winter transfer window I sold both Belhadj and Johnson for about £9 million each and replaced them with Radek Sirl and Miguel Torres who where much better. I had the AML and AMR position on settings that make the players run to the byline then cut inside and either run into the area and shoot or run into the area and pass. However for this to work you need wingers with pace. That helped to provide goals. I did have a dire start to the season, but I sticked with it and ended up 7th in the premier league which qualified me for europe.

My team now looks like this:

SAVIOLA, MILEVYSKI
FEGHOULI
MARQUAHINOS, FELLAINI, WIJNALDUM
KOLAROV, SHAWCROSS, MONGONGU, ONOUHA,
ASENJO
