Hi guys am going to start a season with porto has anyone had experiance with them? Ive never managed in the portugese league before. So any tactics etc would help. thanks.

I've played with Porto previously, you should be able to walk the league every season, with your only real challenge being Benfica and maybe Sporting CP.

Your first two signings really should be a right back and a Goalkeeper, get rid of the deadwood in the team and don't forget to add sell on clauses.

A 4-3-3 with control mentality against weaker teams and counter against strong teams is probably the best for the team, play Fernando as an defensive midfielder on defend duty, and Moutinho as an advanced playermaker support in centre midfield with Souza as a box to box. Play Hulk on the right wing with the inside forward on attack duty (He will destroy everyone playing there)

The league doesn't have the best prize money or sponsorship, so doing well in European competitions and buying youngsters, developing and then selling them on for profit is a good way to make up for this and as there are no restrictions on foreign players in the league getting Brazilian and Argentinian youngsters is a doddle (just load the leagues at the start).

In your firsth season, you dont really need to sign anyone. Maybe then later a good goalkeeper but that is about it. Maybe a back up right back beacuse Fucile is oustanding on right wing. It was for me. But yes, you will dominate Portugal with no real challenge. Enjoy the game

They are the only team I can't beat in the Zon Sagres on my Sporting save, just beat them in the Super Taca though :D

Ok am like 5 games into season and the tactic ive created which is a 4-3-3 Is very effective at Home. I have something like 30+ shots every game at home but only 5/8 of them are actually on target. When am playing away from home i dont have so many shots prob half what i usually do at home. Is there anything i could do to make sure my striker falcao is going put away his chances? Like what sort of philosophy will i use? Passing style etc? Player instructions? Thanks

Ok guys ive tweaked the PI's abit on some players. Falcao- Hold up ball + long shots. Am playing him as a complete forward but what is he best at? Hulk- Hit long shots + run with ball + cuts inside. J.Rodriguez - Hits long shots + Runs with ball + Cuts inside. J.Moutinho- Through balls. Fernando - Tackling hard + Press in Own half - Playing him as DM/Defend. F.Belluschi -Through balls. I am going to see if this will change anything in how they all play.

If Hulk's on the right with Rodriguez on the left, play Hulk as an inside forward and Rodrigues as a winger to help keep the balance of the play and get some good supply for Falcao. Complete forward is fine for him. Have Moutinho set to close down the whole pitch to make the most of his defensive ability, and run with ball sometimes, from deep often -- use the CMs to support the front three rather than join in, since none of them are great on the ball - a rigid philosophy may help with this

Ok thanks mate. I will try this and see how it gets on. Am in febuary now. How do u get the best out of falcao and hulk scoring wise? They aint exactly been banging rakes of goals in for me.

I played as porto, won the champions league in season two with the same players except new goalie matej delac. If you want it as a long term save buy a young great goalkeeper.

If you do well in the champions league every year from season 3 onwards you will get a pretty big transfer budget - but the team is very young.

Great post by The_kezler.

I agree, invest in a new keeper - Sergio Romero is a perfect fit but may cost a bit. Worth every penny however! Sinan Bolat is a great keeper too - ideally suited as a backup keeper, but whenever I have bought him he has displaced my first choice. Check him out because he is very cheap.

Make sure you play James Rodriguez quite often - give him 20 minutes or so a game. Perhaps start him against lower teams if you are heavy favourite. He is very good.

4-3-3 with Varela, Falcao and Hulk across the front. Ensure you tie down your better players on long term contracts as big European teams WILL come calling. And once Inter/Barca/United etc start calling, some players will get upset and want to leave. So make them happy by tieing them down, and talk/compliment them often. Just keep 'em smiling.

Fernando should be played always - he is a great holding mid. A lot like Essien I have found.

Good luck :)

I will post some screenshots of my team. I won the league and BWIN Cup. Give me 10mins to post screen shots.

Ok guys so here is some screenshots of my team, League table and My transfers. Just going into season 2.

I got to last 16 of europa league. Got beat by dortmund on away goals. even though i had them in group stages and beat them home and away 1-0 respectivly. I really should have beat them again but i had hulk and falcao injured. Ive just make some signings and sold quite a few, I will post some screenshots if you want of my upto date transfers?
