Evening.

Can anyone shed some light or help with a small matter?

I tried to pre-order FM2013 though FM Base and pay via paypal. After the payment had gone through I received this email...

Dear customer,

You have received this e-mail because you made a purchase from our online store.

For security reasons, your order needs a validation from our sales administration department. You will also receive your order confirmation with a download link and an activation code once the transaction has been approved by our services.

To approve your order, please provide a scan or photo of the documents via email or fax a copy for the person who made the purchase:

- ID card (both sides)
OR
- Driver licence (both sides)
OR
- The passport

We will confirm your order within the 12 business hours (maximum) following receipt of these documents.

ATTENTION:
Please make sure that each document sent by fax or email is legible; also, please make sure to specify your current order number on every identity proof.

Please send us these elements as soon as possible. Without any answer from you within the five next days, your order will be cancelled.

Please send the documents to:
- by fax: 33 4 66380328
- or e-mail: [email protected]

Feel free to contact us if you need further information.

Best Regards,

Say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??

In a few cases Nexway will require proof of ID.

Why on earth didn't they ask before they took my money? I'm not sending them any proof of ID. Why the **** should I?

Happens occasionally.

Transactions get held for suspected fraud quite often, normally if use different paypal email address to the one you want them to send the email link to.

Happened a few times last year and as soon as people sent the details asked for they got their code.

It's the same when there is a fraud flag on your card and the bank rings whatever shop you are in to ask for ID before finalising the transaction, has happened to me twice.

That's great if people want to send those documents. I'm not. I'm not pleased that someone has taken my money BEFORE asking for these details.

Is this unique to Paypal? If I try to purchase off this site with the old fashioned card system am I gonna get stung again by this?

Your money will be refunded if you choose not to send your documents.

I guess you can try paying by card, use a different email address to the ones nexway already have though...

That's the bank calling, this is a third party wanting ID. Surely that's not right?

No idea if it's right/legal or what.

But we use nexway because they are a reputable digital e-commerce specialist. I know that Kaspersky, EA and Ubisoft use them, so you shouldn't worry about your details being compromised.

As to why they need further documentation, i have no idea why, but there must be a reason from their end. I accept it's different to a bank doing it.

But let's say (and it's an incredibly small chance, but obviously one they are looking to cut out) in another situation, you were the victim of an attempted fraud, but nexways system prevents someone from acquiring FM13 at your expense, you'd be glad right?

Very true, fair point. Cheers for responding. I still don't fancy sending copies of those documents to them though so will have to think of plan b!

It is usually caused by the customer details you entered (name, address etc..) not matching the payment details (name, adress on your bank/paypal account). It's just a precaution to prevent fraud which happens in very rare cases.
