Problem playing without the disk

So I got fm2010 last year and has been happily playing with the disk. Last month I had to uninstall the game and wanted to reinstall last night- my computer will not read the disk now. This is strange in itself because although the dvd is not in tiptop condition, it really isnt that bad either.

Anyway, I remembered you could install by steam (i had never done this until now) but using the code on the back of the booklet that came with the game I just downloaded the game from steam. When I try to run it it is still trying to read off the disk. Shouldnt it by pass the disk if you download from steam?

Any advice? Am I going to have to buy the game again? :-(

Did you try and install the patch after you activated it on Steam? Because that can cause the error.

I did.....

what should I do now? Anything that doesnt involve uninstalling the whole shabang? can i just uninstall the patch? I was thinking anyway, the download from steam will have all the info of the patch anyway, wont it?

Re-installing from Steam is the only way I think. It's what I had to do.
