Hey,
I am currently managing PSG in the year 2019 and am looking to play a 4-1-2-1-2 formation pressing high up the pitch to win the ball back early and play short passing. My aim is to replicate the Milan diamond played under Ancelotti during the days of Pirlo and Kaka.
I was wondering if anyone could help me with how I should play the Defensive Midfielder. I currently play Verratti there as a deep lying playmaker (selected as primary playmaker) with support duty with a box to box midfielder and a ball winning midfielder (support) ahead of him in CM. I also have trequartista as AMC and my strikers are a deep lying forward and a poacher. Should I play keep Verratti with the support duty or give him a defend duty? My team also has wing backs supplying the width so I figured I would need someone to hold the midfield.
Also would anyone suggest any tweaks for playing away from home?

Cheers much appreciated!

I'd say play a 4-3-2-1, away.

Carlo's Milan were a counter attacking team, Kaka was a 1 man counter attacking beast.

Ok thanks would you suggest making the deep lying or advanced playmaker the primary playmaker for this? Any particular team instructions?

Make the DLP the playmaker.

The 4-3-2-1 I posted above was the system Carlo used in 2007.

Oh and once your done, post your tactic. It would be interesting to see a Carlo's Milan esque tactic :)
