A new era begins.

Philip Cocu out. Cadle in.

As an unknown manager, I hope to guide the plethora of youths at PSV to Champions League success. Currently, the board has demanded a top of the table, but that’s to be expected. I mean with players of Depay and Narsingh’s calibre in my side I’m confident of achieving this easily, as well as a nice run in the Euro cup.

The club has a solid financial structure which I look to improve by developing my youth and selling on for nice profits. The biggest challenge will be holding on to Depay, but we will cross that bridge when it comes. That’s part of the reason why Champions League qualification is vital for me this season.

Any success I’ve had on FM15 has stemmed from a fluid, attacking 451, which exploits the wings and aims to maintain possession. The technical ability, strong wingers and lots of ball-players in this side mean that this is an ideal suit for PSV and as long as I can find a solid RB that should be enough to give me a solid framework to build on for the future.
I may look into developing a striker-less 2nd tactic for my side (if it works) due to the number of attacking midfielders I have and it could be fun to play with in the domestic cups, but we will see

(This is my 1st thread so would appreciate any feedback)

Good luck with this mate, looking good so far!

Am currently having my first experience in the Dutch league with Ajax so might steal some ideas from you ;)

Haha it's my first too - a bit risque doing my first story like that but yolo.

PSV was a team I managed in the earlier versions of FM. I enjoy the Dutch league and will be keeping an eye on the story from time to time.

Good luck!

To break down the squad in brief, we have so many good players going forward; it’s just going to be a challenge to balance this sturdy defence. We’re good enough to play the “1 more goal than the opposition tactic in the league, but I want a play style which is transferable into Europe, and ultimately that’s where I want my managerial success to lie.

Key Players

View attachment 292071

Depay – Depay is nothing but godly. My challenge is to keep hold of him for as long as possible as currently he is good enough to play for a top top European side, and he’s only going to get better.

View attachment 292070

Narisngh – Narsingh is almost the perfect winger. If only his stamina was better ( I bet his mrs hates that ). Seriously though, he should be providing goals on a plate for my forwards as long as I can keep him fit and in form.

View attachment 292069

Maher – A young lad with a lot of potential and will definitely play as much as possible. He has a lot of the necessary stats to make a good APM and hopefully wih a couple of years and a lot of game time he’ll be a world class CM for me.

Unfortunately I took over after the 1st preseason game had been played but that’s not a problem. No difficult opposition, but Litex, Bari and Vallodolid will be no pushovers. I’m just praying on a nice draw for Euro Qualification as that’s my focus for the first season, although I don’t think I will be drawn against a team who can contend with us!

So that’s pre-season over, and surprise-surprise, it didn’t go all that great. I should most definitely start taking control of the team in friendlies as I don’t think I’ve ever had one good pre-season with my assistant in control. Ah well. At least my boys got some much needed match fitness and are eager and raring to go for our Euro Cup playoff against Ruch Chorzow. Joyously our first game of the season is against our biggest rivals Ajax, fortunately a loss here means we still have 33 games to catch up the 3 points against them: that’s only 0.09 points a game which is nothing!
I would do a player of the pre-season but no one really deserves it.

Okay so one month in and this is how our fixtures in the league went

Ajax 2-0 PSV
1st loss of the season and in the 1st game too. Not good. And to cap it all off our rb Arias got sent off too. Things can only get better from here on in.
PSV 4-0 Heerenveen
(De Jong, Depay, Otigba (O.G), Wijnaldum)
That’s the reaction I was after, dominated straight from the first kick and never looked like losing.
AZ 2-2 PSV
(Maher, Vadillo)
Maher scored and got injured, just what I needed. He’s been a shining light so far this season. Good to see new signing Vadillo get a goal on his debut too.
Go Ahead 1-1 PSV
(Wijnaldum)
I don’t know what was wrong with the lads. We couldn’t break Go Ahead down and were lucky to get a point. Wijnaldum is putting a big shift in in the centre of the park, he’s really stood out since Maher’s injury.
PSV 2-1 Excelsior
(Bruma, Wijnaldum)
Wijanldum again! I’m so glad I didn’t sell him to Napoli when they sniffed around him, without him we’d be in the sticky stuff at the bottom of the table.

Not bad, but hardly the start I expected, hopefully we’ll grow into the season and pip Ajax to the title, but who knows.

In Europe we progressed with ease:

View attachment 291556

4 games, 4 wins, 9 goals scored, 2 conceded. Progression to the Euro cup group stages was a formality for us.

As things stand we’re 5th in the league and already an almighty 7 points behind Ajax, we have some serious catching up to do. The FM Gods were not kind in our Europa League draw either, with Dinamo Moscow, Standard and Hull all going to be stiff opposition.

Next month’s fixtures look a lot less congested, with 2 easy league games, an easy cup game, and a Europa League game which really could go either way.

Looking at the average stats of my boys below the 2 standout players for this month have to be Maher (before he got injured) and Wijnaldum, I need my strikers to start scoring and Depay to become much less sporadic if I’m going to get anywhere this season.

Will post a transfers update either tonight or tomorrow night based on how much time I have later lads.

So September begins and with that the end of the transfer window. A quick look at the other major leagues shows nothing too major. Alcacer and Marchisio were the biggest movers. I did however clock Juventus signed Marco Verratti (he’s like my favourite player ever) for a measly 6m, I wish he would’ve come to us haha!

We made some great additions adding a blend of youth and experience. Anyukov and Burdisso have come straight into the first team, with Kramaric playing league games up top as he is cup tied for Europa League. Vadillo came in to replace the outgoing Bakkali (I had to sell as he refused to even engage in new contract negotiations with me) and I’m looking to play him as much as possible as he’s who I’d look to sign to replace a departing Depay/ Narsingh. I’ll do a full review of the signings in the next post!!!

I also signed Odegaard but he won’t join until January because he’s so young.
Would love to hear any recommendations/ opinions on my summer business guys!

This month the team really did click. The defense started to gel and Anyukov has helped to solidify my back line. Karmaric and Gil haven't had the opportunities in the 1st team i was hoping to give them but it doesnt matter as my front 3 of Depay, Narsingh and Vadillo has been unstoppable (I'm now playing Depay up top, Vadillo on the left as if and Narsingh on the right as winger)

4 games, 18 goals scored and 0 conceded. All i can say is wow. If i was worried that we weren't capable of catching Ajax I've certainly been proven wrong. My team has the quality it just needs the consistancy now.

Next months fixtures hold 2 tough Euro Cup games, but after the Dinamo Moscow result I know my squad is capable of walking the group.

My player of the month has to go to Vadillo, he's been a revolution this month banging in 8 goals. He's already made me consider trying to tap him up now for a permenant deal next year!

I have the next few months ready to upload, do you guys prefer the briefer, or the more detailed update? That way I know to right in the style you all like :)

This month saw us play one Euro Cup game, a Dutch Cup and 3 games in the league, the most difficult being at home to FC Twente in the Eredivisie.

View attachment 290812

Hull 0-4 PSV
Quite simply Wow! We dominated from start to finish and in Vadillo’s absence Depay has really shown a different class. He scored 3 world class goals here and Hull simply put couldn’t match him. I believe I started playing him upfront during this spell, until Vadillo got injured and I had to move him back to LAM.
(Depay 3, Lacodia)

NAC 3-2 PSV
Hmmm. Where did it all go wrong? We might have gotten complacent, but we battled right to the end, it wasn’t a bad performance we just couldn’t quite hit the back of the net.
(Depay, Ritzmaier)

PSV 1-1 FC Twente
When we went ahead after 15 minutes I thought we would go on to win comfortably but it wasn’t to be. We played poorly and ended up being lucky to scrape a point. Not good considering Twente were really struggling at this point in the season.
(Depay)

Standard 0-4 PSV
Europe really hasn’t been difficult so far. I never thought this group would be so easy.
(Depay, De Jong 2, Narsingh)

PSV 3-0 Cambuur
They were no match for us. Our European form is hitting the league again and when we play like this I think we can compete with Ajax who are running away from us in the league.
(Depay, Gil, Kramaric)

IJsselmeervogels 0-3 PSV
An easy win in the cup. A great opportunity to maintain our form which the boys gladly fulfilled.
(Depay, Bruma, Vadilo)

All in all a great month for the cups but the league is still a bit shaky. Now we’re 13 points behind Ajax and we don’t look like catching them. I hope they have a shaky patch soon.

Only one man deserves Player of the Month and that’s Depay. He’s sheer class.

Depay is an unreal player! Signed him at Spurs for only £13.5m but his desire for Champions League meant i had to let him go for £38m to PSG! In his second season he 15+ goals and 15+ assists from the LAM position
