I am currently learning the ropes by managing my favorite, but very easy, team Barcelona. I'm halfway into my second season with them and things are going well, but its not much of a challenge.

I am wondering if you can take a smaller club, maybe from a lower league, and build them to the size of a Barcelona club. Can you get a small club to compete with Barcelona (Stadium size, Transfer Budget, Prestige so that players want to move) after promotion and winning for seasons on end? That is what I want to do, but I'm not sure if I want to work a small club all the way up and find that I can't compete against the larger clubs because I can never get a large enough stadium or enough of a budget to get close. I like the challenge of having to get quality players for less, but I don't want 1 transfer from a top flight team to be more than my entire roster and transfer budget when I'm winning just as much for a decade.

If someone can give me insight as to what a small club that continually wins year after year grows to become I would gladly appreciate it. For now I will continue to learn with my Barca save until I restart a game with a lower league Spanish team and try and take down Barca a few years down the road.

You can compete eventually but we're are talking about many seasons of management. Depends on which club you choose for eg. if it was a 2nd division team it could be about 6 seasons.
Because it's about reputation and your player's reputation. If they play for their country and win many awards then that increases likewise with your club. If it wins many trophies such as Champions league you rep. should be high now. And with that you're finances would increase and so would other things. But I doubt players from season 1 will be the same players you win the top flight trophies with because you'll need a squad makeover gradually.
But competing with Barcelona in prestige is difficult because them along with real madrid are probably the highest in the game. So if you think about it, 2 clubs out of the many hundred in the world made a name for themselves. So chances are slim that others will to their extent.
