Hey guys, hoping that Santa brings me FM14 for Christmas ;)

Just a quick question, apologies if it has been answered elsewhere.

One notable difference I saw from FM12 to FM13 was the increased prices of the regens. Fair enough for the likes of regens at the top world clubs going for a large fee, but one of my favourite exciting parts of FM12 was albeit using Genie Scout, was finding brilliant youngsters from small parts of the world & paying usually well under ?1million for them & watching them grow in youth teams, even if I just sold them on for a good profit.

However, in FM13 I noticed that even teams in poor European leagues they were demanding millions for youngsters. I had a cracking season going for Southampton and had around ?10million left but couldn't sign any good regens from the world as the clubs demanded ridiculous fees!!!

I know this makes it more realistic, but I honestly only think the top clubs should be able to demand such a fee for a regen player. Can anyone who has gone a few years down the line already in FM14 tell me what it's like based on regen prices or any tips?

Sorry for the rant haha!

Cheers. :)

I've seen some people complain the prices are still too high, I personally haven't seen this though yet. The goal when signing regens should be to get in before they can sign a contract with their club.

Use this: http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/football-manager-2014-discussion/142887-fm14-regen-dates.html

as help for when to look for them generating in game.

in FM14 it depends on the club selling and the player (His age, his level). I was able to get a striker with awesome stats at 17 years of age from Colombia for 5M, but buying from say Bayern is difficult, or buying the random 20 year old regen even in first year is difficult if he's too good and already in first team. I play as Chelsea and usually snap up English talents before they sign for their respective clubs, for negligible fees. It isn't as good as FM12 but isn't as bad as FM13 either.

FM12 was a little too easy, I didn't mind it in 13 all that much but they do seem reasonable in 14 for me so far.
You do get the odd one or two who will demand massive prices but you can usually find players of a similar level around anyway for very little.

I paid ?70m for a regen from Bayern, unbelievably excessive, but I had ?130m to spend and he looks to be the best regen on the game.

I paid 850k to sign best striker regen, 17 finishing at 16 years of age. Don't buy regens from Bayern first year, second year they're relatively cheaper.

I also agree that regens are priced too high. In real life, you would rarely see a team have to pay more than a few million for a teenager yet to make his debut, but on the game Aston Villa want ?22m for a 14 yearold regen they have.
I have also spotted a regen at Real who is 16, and hasnt played a game yet. He looks amazing, but even so I wouldn't expect my bids of ?40m to be turned down!

That happens when they've just signed a long contract.

But even then, in real life they wouldn't demand that much. Arsenal recently bought 15 year old Dan Crowley from Aston Villa (In real life), for just less than a million. Aston Villa (And others, including Roy Hodgson) rated him as the next big thing. But since he was only a teenager, Villa accepted the ?1m fee.

Compare that to my save, where they have a player in a similar position, but they reject bids of ?6m, and will only accept over ?20m! Not very realistic :/

It's due to the way reputation works in game, the best regens get great rep so they're well known already and usually are on really long contracts right away.
Those together along with their great PAs and you get one expensive 16 year old, that being said I've found quite a few bargains out there too. You need to either get in there before they sign the contracts or wait it out for a season or so and then go for them.

Yeap, I usually spend a long time going through regens on youth recruitment day, but I couldn't be bothered in the first season. I only looked at the biggest clubs in each nation. If i had bothered, I could of snapped the ?40m+ guy from Real for just ?700k :'(

Yeah unfotunately its the way it goes with the reputation system, a decent guy in the PL migght be worth 1-4 mill.
However if the next Messi spawns in Uguchacha in Zambia, you might be able to get him for 60k.
However sometimes you get lucky in England too, last year (fm13 where the prices were higher) I got myself one of the best English strikers England has ever seen, and he came for a hefty total of 50k from a lower league side.
So to sum it up, you can get lucky in England too, but more often than not, you have to pay top dollar for british regens

is it still impossible to recruit top class regens from nations that seem not to produce these in real life?

In real life, there's no guarantee, he might turn out to be below average, like many prospects do, but in game if they have high PA they'll most likely succeed barring serious injuries.

Invariably, the thing with regens is to snap them up on Youth Intake day. Focus mainly on France, Italy, England, Germany. Excellent regens. Although, on that day, regens don't tend to move to a club in the same league.

Or you could wait, and try to snap up the regen, when another AI club bids on him. I don't like the use this method for normal players, because more often than not, it results in bloated wages, due to competition.

Here is an example with my Southampton save..

Check what amounts I'd to pay for them >_>

If I'd tried to negotiate with the club, they'd demand 20 - 60 million odd for those players, if they'd sell them at all.

Also, look at free transfers..

I got his guy as a free agent..
