I've played CM and FM games for a long time and really enjoy them. However I wonder how much of the control we have over the outcomes in the game are actually just too random.
I'm playing a game where I had a league game vs Port Vale and drew 0-0. Unfortunately, a thunderstorm caused a powercut and had to replay it. without changing any tactics, players subs or team talk I lost 2-0 on the replay. I decided to try again to get a draw (for fairness) and without changing a single variable I won 3-1.
0-0, 2-0 loss and 3-1 win using exactly the same variables for each game. I stopped playing FML because it seemed totally random and I believe still to this day that this is the reason for it's demise.
My understanding is that the developers look at RL results and try to simulate them with the ME. However I could create a program that simulates a 0.67 % success rate for teams with the same success rate irl just by using a RNG.
Is there too much randomness in results and how do the developers and fans of the game justify the fact that using the same set of variables for a match I can get such completely different results every time.
