February 2006 at Ibrox Stadium, Rangers faced a Villarreal side in the last 16 of the Champions League.
In front of 49,372 people, this Rangers side went onto draw 2-2 in the first leg only to be eliminated on away goals following a 1-1 draw in the second leg. What the fans didn't know was that in the following 8 years, Rangers would find themselves in the lowest tier of Scottish Football.
Now all that remains from the glory days are fond memories and of course Stevie Smith, the journeyman full back who returned to the club in the summer.
STV NEWS AT 6...
"MIKE ASHLEY BAILS RANGERS OUT WITH CRISIS LOAN ON A DAY ALLY McCOIST SAYS ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!"
Rangers are braced for a flood of applicants following the resignation of Ally McCoist.
"An hour after Ally had left, we already had 10 people put their names in, I don't think there will be any shortage of candidates!" a spokesmen for the Glasgow club tonight told STV.
This news having come after Rangers earlier accepted a £2million loan from Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, saving the club from administration. It will give Rangers some much-needed breathing space following rumours the club were due to run out of cash on Tuesday.
