First of all, I admire people who manage to create an absolute good tactic in Football Manager. I have tried many of them, and it was enjoyable.

But too much of tactics (I think most of them) are based on short passes tactic. I don't know if people just wanted to take advantage of FM match engine or people just love this kind of tactics.

I actually love to see tactics where the "Crossing" attribute is fully used to feed "Target Man" like Van Persie, Dzeko, Mandzukic or even C. Ronaldo.

So if you guys have some guides to be shared, I would love to note it.

No guides per se, just a personal tactic I always tend to use..

Use a classical 4-2-3-1, with wingers on attack, set to 'Cross-aim TM' and 'Cross from Byline'. My midfield comprised of a BWM on Defend, and a CM on automatic. Also, an AP or AM on Support. Important that the CM has good decisions and reading of the game, along with 'Dictates Tempo'. The TM is set to attack duty, with a 'Shoots with Power' preferable. Also, CWB, not FB. Works like a charm on counter, on both Southampton and United saves. Instructions are Work Ball into box, and Direct Passing.

Also, this is more the section you need to post this to..
Football Manager 2014 Tactics

Yip, the cross ball to TM tactic works pretty well in FM14, and in my opinion much better than previous FM's. Have a 4-4-1-1 with West Ham, Carroll and I sign Crouch, Giovanni Moreno as the No 10, with Jarvis and Downing supplying, works like a bomb. But like you mentioned in the long run I build West Ham to play the short passing retain possession game.

I have set up a 451 tactic with 1 DM 2 CM and 2 attacking wingers to try and create the kind of football Chelsea play under Mourinho. I have an anchorman behind a box 2 box midfielder and an AP(s). These roles mimic the roles of Mikel Ramires and Oscar which was his favoured choice for his midfield 3 when they were all fit last season. I play a winger(a) in AMR and an inside forward (a) in AML. The inside forward role is try and get the most out of Hazard. I then played a CWB at LB like Cole and then a FB either defend or support for Ivanovic.

With a counter mentality and a rigid fluidity I have found this formation to recreate the Chelsea tactic. You can obviously play around with it a little so if you wanted 2 inside forwards you could make the RB a CWB but then you would need to make one of the CM's more defensive to cover him. Or if you wanted 2 wingers you would make the LB a FB with a defend or support role and then make the CM's slightly more attacking so the lone striker has more central support.

My 4-4-1-1 tactic instructs a short passing, possession-based game at the Team level, but tells my central midfielders to play More Direct Passes to help us Exploit The Flanks and Play Wider to get the Wingers into attacking areas - often on the counterattack - to Cross From Byline and the Shadow Striker and Deep-Lying Forward into the penalty area to capitalise on that service. It's a long thread so I'd recommend just reading the Opening Post and see what you make of it. If you like it, read on for more detail and links to my other tactics threads on this site:
