I have two strikers, both target men, one is stronger, better at heading and finishing and has better mental stats, the other is a similar kind of player but stats are worse. I even checked them out in genie scout, the better player (Anderson Banvo) even has better consistency. Is this due to a reputation thing? E.g Banvo thinks he's too good for the team so doesn't try as hard?

Nothing to do with reputation, lots of things affect performances, but it is probably one of these:

The player who is scoring more is happier at the club;
He could have a better understanding with his team mates;
He could of adapted earlier if they have only joined fairly recently;
Your tactics could suit the player who's scoring better

But most likely it is just a blip of bad form, and eventually he'll come good. Keep giving him game time aswell as the player who's scoring more, and praise him as much as you can.
