Recommended apps for Android

Hey guys
getting my new HTC Desire S later today so was wondering which apps people could recommend having. I've heard there are apps that help save battery, monitor internet usage and so on. I would appreciate if people could give me a few recommendations.

Try finding an app called Zed's Alchemy it's awesome you get the four basic elements and combine them to get other elements... though a friend of mine found Dr. House who is hardly an element...
