Recovering from a serious injury

Started a save as Arsenal, bought Dyabla for £34m and after scoring 3/3 he decides to get a "serious viral infection" which has put him out for 12 months!!!

I've heard that this can severely reduce a players potential and they won't come back the same player.

Has anyone had any experience of this?
 
Whaaaaat. Is this in the "vanilla" version of the game? 12 months? That seems crazy.
And yeah, the players stats will probably decrease a bit during their injury, seeing as they can't train. Which could thenlead to them never reaching their full potential.
 
On the standard 15.3.2 patch mate, his stats have started dropping and his potential has gone from 5 stars to 4 and hes still got another 7 months left of recovery!
Got a feeling I need to look for a new striker!!!
Serious viral infection, could be HIV, pneumonia or anything!!!
