Louis van Gaal fired!

r135384_456993.jpg

The shocking news that Louis van Gaal has been sacked from his job as Bayern Munich manager has spread all around the newspaper headlines in Germany. The Dutch football guru was close to a treble last season but the board obviously didn't think that was enough for the 59-year old to keep his job. Speculations about the new man-in-charge at Allianz Arena began circulating in the media immediately and Uli Hoenes decided to call up a press-conference the same day and calm the situation down.

uli_hoeness_1249132166.jpg

Hoeness: Van Gaal didn't fit, we need someone who can blend in the squad!

Van Gaal's attitude towards the players was unacceptable. He wanted to play god with them, tried to take control over their lives. The Bayern Munich manager must be someone who will be respected by the players and someone to whom they can talk about everything. He must be their boss and their friend. As soon as we, the board, decided to terminate Louis' contract, I knew exactly who is the person we were looking for. So without further ado, with my utmost pleasure, I present you the living legend - Oliver Kahn.

OliverKahn.jpg

Kahn:First of all, I would like to thank you all for coming out here, this is proof of how important Bayern Munich is for the German nation and that can only make me and all the fans extremely happy. I'd be willing to answer all of your question but please keep it short, as we need to get things going immediately to be ready for the new season.

Bild: Mr. Kahn, you have been a player and a captain of Bayern Munich for many years and you have practically won everything there is to win as a player. Do you believe you have got what it takes to do it as a manager as well?

Kahn:I certainly hope I do. I believe the innovations that I will implement and the different approach will be able to take the team to the next level. I know what the missing puzzle piece is.

Deutsche-Welle: Speaking of missing puzzle pieces, are you going to make a lot of changes? Will we see you as an active participant in the transfer market? If so, what kind of players are you looking to sign? Who will be leaving?

Kahn:Changes will be kept to the needed minimum. I will definitely be changing things around here. Our squad is amongst the oldest in the Bundessliga and that is something I will be looking to change. I can also assure you that...

Hoeness: It is time to leave, Oliver. The media will have more time to talk to you later, it is time to work now.

Bayern's letting veterans go

oliver-kahn.jpg

The Bavarians' newly appointed manager Oliver Kahn is looking to fulfill his promise of reducing the squad's average age. Bayern icon Miroslav Klose is reportedly linked to Barcelona and there are a number of teams interested in van Bommel and Anatoliy Tymoschuk. A few stories have spawned that Daniel Van Buyten and Hans-Jorg **** might be leaving as well. On the other hand, the German side has already placed bids for Steve Mandanda, Rafael Toloi and Vaclav Kadlec. There are rumours that they might be looking at Adil Rami, Alphonse Areola and Christian Benitez as well.

PSG boss not allowing Areola transfer

Antoine-Kombouare-hat_2423185.jpg

Alphonse Areola, one of the most promising French prospects, will be staying at PSG this year. The PSG boss issued a hands off warning to all teams that were interested in capturing the young goalkeeper. It is believed that the reason behind that is that he wants to get as much money as possible from the transfer

Not an impressive start in the off-season but we're mostly playing reserve players and youngsters,so I guess it's not such a big deal.

Surprise signings presented at Allianz Arena

Two new Bayern Munich players were presented today. The first is Independiente's Leonel Galeano. The 18-year old central defender caught the attention of Oliver Kahn well enough to get himself a contract at the German titan. The transfer fee was undisclosed but rumours have it that the Argentinian side will be receiving $5mill now plus 5 more over 48 months. The other newcomer is one of the hot names around Europe this year. Sparta Praga's young striker Vaclav Kadlec rejected offers from Barcelona, Chelsea and Inter Milan to join what he said was his all-time favorite club Bayern Munich. The Germans paid 1.8 million dollars for his signature.

Chelsea snap Adil Rami up

Chelsea have completed the signing of Adil Rami today. The impressive French defender will be moving to Stamford Bridge after much speculation about his future. There was interest from Olympique Lyonnais, Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich.

Got to love the sound of the bagpipes

Weather forecasts predict very bad weather for the autumn, so instead of taking his squad on a tour to Spain or Greece, Oliver Kahn arranged a one-week camp in Scotland.

French goalkeeping master close to Bayern transfer

Steve Mandanda was spotted in Munich today and the tabloids are saying Bayern have sealed a deal with Olympique de Marseille. Neither club has said anything about the matter.

Busy day!

Miroslav Klose did not get on the airplane with the Bayern squad on their way to Belgium. They are facing Standard in their last friendly match before the season kicks off. Klose did get on a plane, though. His destination was Barcelona. According to the media, he is going to sign a one-year contract with Los Cules. Manager Pep Guardiola snapped the veteran up from his old friend Oliver Kahn's team for the fee of $4.8mil.

Oliver Kahn: Mandanda will not be joining us this year.

After the last match of his team's off season, Oliver Kahn spoke out to the media about the changes in the Bayern squad. Steve Mandanda, who was linked to a move to the Champions League finalists, will not be changing teams this summer. There will be a new goalkeeper in the German team, however. The holder of the Golden Ball said that he is speaking about a very underestimated player who deserves to be a part of his side. By the time the team is back in Munich, their new teammate should have already signed the contract and his old team should have received approximately $8.5mil.
When asked about Miroslav Klose, Kahn smiled and said that doing the transfer was the best option for all sides. After that he thanked the reporters for the questions and headed to the coach.

Time to say goodbye

Hans-Joerg-Butt_1286137.jpg

The Munich - Barcelona flight became a center of attention once again this week. Two more Bayern Munich players boarded the plane to the Catalonian capital but this time to sign for the other big team from that area. Mark van Bommel and Hans-Jorg **** will be joining the ranks of Espanyol, after failing to become part of Kahn's plans. They refused to talk but everyone could see the sadness in their eyes, as they checked the baggage and awaited the time to board the plane. Bayern will get 9 million dollars in exchange for the two veterans.

The defence of the Bavarian team needed streghtening and that is exactly what Oliver Kahn is doing. After signing Leonel Galeano, he has added another South American defender to the squad and that is Rafael Toloi. Football specialists were expecting a transfer move for the brazillian but Manchester City, Chelsea and AC Milan looked like much more viable options for it. He will be defending the colors of Bayern Munich for the next four years, though, and that will cost the Germans $4+$6 mil.

Transfers recap:

In

Unknown GK - $8.5 mil
Leonel Galeano - $5+$5 mil
Rafael Toloi - $4+$6 mil
Vaclav Kadlec - $1.8 mil

Total: $30.3 mil

Out
Marius Duhnke - released
Miroslav Klose - Barcelona - $4.8 mil
Diego Contento - Hoffenheim(loan) - $250k
Edson Braafheid - Olympiakos(loan) -$150k
Mark van Bommel - Espanyol - $4.7 mil
Hans-Jorg **** - Espanyol - $4.3 mil
Saer Sene - De Graafshap - $1.3 mil
Christian Saba - Triestina - $325k

Total: $15.825 mil

Month Summary:

I left my assistant manager to take care of the friendlies, while I dealt with the transfers. Selling the oldies might be a gamble but I hope it will pay off, as there is a huge competition for starting places right now and I prefer to let younger players play. Will see how it turns up. The board were a bit disappointed with the departure of Klose.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Great start, if it carries on like this, i'm a follower for sure. Check my story out please, AFC Wimbledon Rise of the Wombles.

Thanks, KIU.

Badstuber won't like living in France

When asked about OL's interest in Badstuber, Bayern Munich manager Oliver Kahn responded in a humorous manner. "Holger is not keen on the climate in France. I don't believe he will like living there, so I decided to reject the offer. He's staying with us and will be granted a contract extension as a token of appreciation to his loyalty to the club." It seems that there won't be any more transfers in or out of the German champions.

After finding out that Kameni is the new starting goalkeeper at Allianz Arena, legendary shotstopper Sepp Maier exploded in an interview for Bild.
"Kahn is out of his mind! There is no way Kameni is good enough for our team! We will be suffering this season, if we don't get a better goalkeeper!"
Only time will show, if Maier was right.

What a way to kick off the season. The matches between Bayern and Schalke have always been one of the most suspenseful derbies in Germany and this year will not be any different, especially since Raul joined the team from Gelsenkirchen.

Champions League groups drawn

champions-league-logo1.jpg

Oliver Kahn travelled to Nyon for the drawing of the Champions League group stage. Bayern have been seeded first along with Barcelona, Man Utd, Chelsea, Inter, Arsenal, Olympique Lyonnais and AC Milan.

The first round assigned the German champions to group F.

Second Round:
Benfica...will join...Barcelona in group A

Olympique de Marseille...will join...Arsenal in group D

Shakhtar...that's a tough team... They will be playing AC Milan in group G.

Real Madrid...are drawn to...group F! Now these will be two classic group matches. Real Madrid join Bayern Munich in group F.

Sevilla is the next team... they go to group E, together with OL.

Valencia...the team making a visit to the Mestalla will be Inter Milan

Schalke...that's group B with Chelsea.

And last but not least, it's Roma to group H. A replay of the 1/4-finals from 2006/07, when United won 7-1.

Group F final draw:

Bayern Munich
Real Madrid
FC Basel
AJ Auxerre

oliver-kahn-1.jpg

Oliver Kahn feedback on draw:
Well, what can I say. Nobody wants to play Real Madrid but I guess we have no option but to go out there and beat them two times. Auxerre and Basel are strong teams that will require serious attitude from our players when they enter the matches. We have our chances as long as we stay focused and play like a team. We are strong enough to lift the trophy in May but we must lose our concentration even for a split second because that might cost us a lot. Right now, we have a match with HSV tomorrow and everyone's mind should be set to the Imtech Arena in Hamburg.

lahm-disappointed-post-match-interview-16918253__MBQF,templateId=renderScaled,property=Bild,height=349.jpg

Philipp Lahm was taken off injured during today's match between Hamburg and Bayern Munich. First reports indicate that the trauma might be really serious but we will have to wait until tomorrow for more precise information.

28.8.2010:

Lahm will miss Real Madrid game

Philipp-Lahm-006.jpg

After being inspected by the club physios, Philipp Lahm was taken to a surgery clinic in Stuttgart to receive specialist treatment. He will be sidelined for two to three months, following a torn hamstring. This injury is a serious blow to his team's ambitions this season.

Month summary:

We were able to secure two league victories that have us occupying the second place in the table at the moment and we advanced to the next round of the cup tournament. Lahm's injury will affect our game a lot, though, and it will be harder for the defence during the next few months.

Bayern Munich 3 - 0 Frankfurt

Bild: Mr. Kahn, the match against Frankfurt was expected to be a tight one with some people even expecting a draw. Yet, you sit here after winning 3-0.
Kahn: It's true. The boys were impeccable. Everyone was doing their job and in the end, after we were down to 10 people due to Daniel's injury we remained calm and even managed to score another.

Bild: Two of your key players were injured today. Lahm is sidelined since last week and Robben won't be in play for a long time too. Do you consider your team jinxed?
Kahn: It might seem like it but I don't believe in such things. Van Buyten will be up for the match on Wednesday and Mario Gomez is out only for about 10 days.

Bild: This means that Gomez won't be playing against Real?
Kahn: Yes. However, this will be a great opportunity for Vaclav Kadlec to step up and prove that he has a place in a team such as Bayern.

Bild: We will see about that. Thank you for the interview.

Carlos Kameni

Bild: A thrilling match today against Real Madrid. Neither side could score any goals, though.
Kahn: I still need to take a breath. This was one of those matches that neither side deserves to lose. Kameni deserves a huge praise for his saves and our defenders were rock solid.
Marca: Do you blame the draw on the injuries? Would you have won, if the injured players were a part of the game?
Kahn: It would be stupid, if I speculated about that. No one will ever know. We can't change the result now.
Bild: Are you going to make any changes before Saturday's game?
Kahn: That's highly unlikely.
