reputation enhancing

I am mid way through my 1st season with west brom, I have cashed in on a number of players therefore have money to spend however my attempts to sign top players are failing in contract negotiations due to reputation (I assume) so was wondering on any tips to enhance reputation or, in general signing, top players

You enhance your reputation by winning trophies. Its that simple. Then they will negotiate a contract
