I like to give my new/young players game-time in League/FA Cup games, which means resting nearly all my first team players. Sometimes I tell the first team players I'm resting them to keep them fresh for more important games coming up. I figure this will stop them getting the hump. Does anyone else do this? And do I need to do this? (It's a pain in the **** chatting to each player).

I do that quite often, however Ive never spoke to the players and never had any complaints :)

You dont necessary have to tell them your resting them. I do a similar thing to you where I rest alot of my first XI. I do keep 2 or 3 first teamers in to keep the quality up. I always field a strong bench incase things go **** up aswell. It will help rest players for such a season. Besides whats the point in having a squad if you dont use them.

Keep doing what your doing with your team, but you dont really need to tell them. Might be of interest to tell some players who have got poor morale though.

Yeah I thought as much. I prefer to let my top players know why I'm dropping them for some inexperienced 17 year old. You know how the game works sometimes. You field a team of youngster and only manage a 2-0 win over some low league team and you get slated for not beating them by a bigger margin. The game should be programmed to know you are testing out players, or it should give you the option to say your experimenting in the pre-match conference. Not that I do conferences.

I always rest my top players in cup games and blood threw my youngsters (especially in the paint pot trophy!) but i also do the same never inform them that they are not playing, also around christmas time i do the same as you can sometimes play 4 games in the space of 15 days or so!

Howver i always like it in the press conferenc after when they ask you if resting key players was a problem there should be an option to say that you were trying out the kids etc !

**** it's easier to develop youngster in a league like Croatia's, if you in 5-6 seasons become a good European club(I played a save in which I was Hajduk for eight seasons, 2014 Europa League 2016 2017 2018 Champions League winner, 2011 2013 EL runner-ep) you can buy tons of cheap youngsters and play them in league games cause other club are awful and your youngsters should be good enough to give them about 20-25 games per seasons while the top players are always fresh for the european season... though this doesn't help you much... and yes you must rest your players as much as you can, it is very useful :D

I found it helps to keep the motivation up to tell them you are going to rest them for the next match. But it only works if you use it on a player who has been in the starting 11 in the last 5-6 games. If you just leave somebody out who has been a starting player over a longer period of time, they always drop motivation 1 or 2 levels. If you use the dialog and tell them you will rest them, they don't. It only works if their stamina is below 95 % before the match though, otherwise the dialog will make them get upset and lose even more motivation than if you just left them out.

i tend to just leave players out and they don't complain to me. but it might be becuase i only do it when either their condition is low, the opponents are weak and i have a good youngster i want to try out, if it's a competition i don't care about or if i have a big game coming up i rest the main 3-5 players teh game before.

They won't complain like in a message but keep a look at their motivation, if it was green it's likely to be yellow next match.
