Hi Guys,

Ive just started a career in Portugal with a team called Rio Ave. I started off with 350k in the bank, and 2 months in and i'm already 400k in the red, can anyone tell me why?
I havnt bought anyone or added any new staff, just renewed 2 players contracts and thats it.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I always run red number until I get TV money. Check my blog out if you want, I'm taking Boavista to the Champions League!

Oh right, so its ok then to keep going like it is, then later the bank balance improves does it?
Yeah will check it out.

Thanks

Aye, the bank balance will improve quite quickly. If you can, I'd suggest friendlies against Benfica, Sporting and Porto to fill up the coffers.

Hm... I tried playing Boavista, got them to EURO cup but got sick and tired of starting every season with 0k for transfer and 40k for wages
What I'm trying to say is that your finances won't improve unless you get into the group stages of the european club tournaments ATLEAST two years in a roll
There are very little money from TV rights in Portugal, sponsors don't give much either, attendance is poor...

Only exceptions are Benfica and Porto (and possibly Sporting and Braga)

Ahhh not what I wanted to hear, but why am I losing money when I havnt bought anyone? I'm going to keep on with it and see what happens, hoPefully I'll start to improve my balance.

Thanks

I'm in a save with Estrela Amadora. First 3 seasons were rough, I always lost money. Just tried to sign players on free and get loans. Attendance isn't good, and ticket prices are really low due to economy. You just have to soldier through it. I'm 9 years in now and for the past 5 years or so I've gotten great transfer budgets, and have spent 50+ million USD twice for players.

The best tip I can give you is to pillage all of africa for yearly regens. They are cheap and you can find some stellar athletes that can lead you to continental cup wins. I'd say that at it's highest point, 75% of my team was from Africa

You're losing money because your income is lower than your expenditure (NO WAI! right?)
As I recall, I paid ridiculous amounts of money for ground maintainance
+ you get to pay wages (player and staff), bonuses, probably loans (on my game, the dumb president was leaching 8mil from the club) possibly rent (not sure if Rio Ave own their stadium)

All of that is supposed to be covered by gate receipts and merchandising but, being in Portugal, you get neither
Even with Benfica, the only thing that keeps me afloat is CL revenue (granted, I am paying nearly 30 mil in installments but still)

So, If I were you, I'd drop the game before I waste too much time and mental health on it

Then again, some ppl appear to have been able to make it work

Good luck

Thanks for your replies guys, by the sounds of it will be a tough ask. So have gone and started in Holland with De Graafschap, hopefully be a little different there!

Crowley understands the Portuguese league.

I took a team from the bottom of Div 2 and yes as he mentioned I live off CL money and selling players. My world class players hardly bring in many shirt sales, even with a Chinese feeder and me being a top 15 team in the world.

I recently got a larger stadium (22k) but ticket prices are still fairly low as well as attendance (even after making CL final) My season tickets are on par with Benfica but still it's a tenuous situation.

It's a good challenge though, there are no signing restrictions but little regen talent (maybe a couple continental players a year from the Big 3) and hard financial times.

Once you break into your nations top 3 teams, it's smooth sailing and honestly the league is incredibly easy outside of Benfica Porto and Sporting (Braga can be a pain too) which is one season I've stopped playing that save for a bit.
