Former player Fabio Santos confirmed as Sporting's new boss.

The 42-year-old Portuguese has signed until the end of the season at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.
He replaces Jorge Jesus, who decided to resign citing personal reasons.
Santos will take charge of Sporting with immediate effect and will have the important task of getting the team ready for another title challenge. Last season the title nearly came back to Alvalade but after a close battle with fierce local rivals Benfica, they came up 2 points behind.
Santos will be hoping to be the man that brings the title home, especially since he is a confessed Sporting fan and played for them during his playing career. Nothing would make all Sporting fans more happier than winning the Liga Nos title that has eluded the "Verdes-E-Brancos" since 2002, which Santos was part of the winning team

Who is Fabio Santos?

Born in Lisbon, Santos played professionally in his homeland for C.F. Estrela da Amadora, Vit. Guimaraes and Sporting, before having a six-year abroad spell in both Spain and Italy (Valencia and Fiorentina, respectively), before returning back to Sporting, where he finished his career as a player.

Santos gained 82 caps for the Portuguese national team and scored 39 goals, 13 of them coming during tournament finals.
He ended his 14 year career with 4 league titles with 2 clubs (2 with Sporting & 2 with Valencia) and many cup wins but he never got the opportunity of winning a trophy for country.

FIXTURES FOR PRE-SEASON

View attachment 103736

For our pre-season, we have decided to do a tour of the Netherlands and have arranged 4 games to be played against local opposition
3 of the 4 teams play in the Jupiler League which is the 2nd Division there but it should be a good chance for me to observe the squad and see who what 11 will be my Starting XI.
I might add a few more fixtures at home, one of them being the to present the squad to the fans and of course there is the home tournament that is played at Alvalade on a yearly basis:

  • [*=center]The "Cinco Violinos" Trophy, a game to celebrate 5 players who during 1946-49, made up the foward line of the starting 11 and treated the fans to some of the most entertaining football ever seen, winning the title each of those 3 years. They played so well together, and with such harmony, thus why they were are named the "5 Violins".
I shall now go through the whole squad with my backroom staff and look at what our weaknesses and strengths are, whilst looking at possible players to make our team better, either in the transfer window or from our youth academy.
