Hey, this is my first story in FM10. I’m thinking about trying the impossible and picking Rochdale. The furthest they have ever gone in the English league system was a 9th place finish in Coca Cola League 1 back in 1970. While I’m sure their fans would be ecstatic to see them in The Championship, I’m being slightly more optimistic. I’m setting myself a 6 year target of bringing Rochdale to the premiership for the first time in their History. And then hopefully soon after that, Europe.

Breaking News
Keith Hills has been removed from his position as Manager of Rochdale football club after it was discovered he was using the players wage budget for personal use. Chairman Chris Dunphy was quoted to have said the following.
[FONT=&quot]" Following recent developments, the player's, staff and board members have unanimously proposed a motion of No-Confidence in Manager Keith Hills. The players have expressed their extreme distrust for thier current manager and the coaching staffs are unwilling to work with him. As a result we will begin the process of appointing a new Manager in the following weeks"

News Just In
Rochdale has confirmed the appointed Irishman Brendan O'Grady as replacement for the recently sacked Keith Hills. With Rochdale achieving respectable positions in their last two ventures into League 2, finishing 5th & 6th respectively, not many are expecting O'Grady to reproduce these results in his first year of management, let alone compete for promotion.

A press confrence has been aranged at the Spotland to welcome Brendan O'Grady to him new Club.

Press: Mr. O'Grady, giving that you have no previous experiance managing a football team, do you feel you are qualified to be the Manager of Roachdale?

[/FONT]
O'Grady: To answer your question, Yes. Football is a passion, it’s more than just a game, more than just looking at name o sheets of paper, ticket sales and talking to you people. Football is about following your team to **** and back. Jumping around like crazy in a bar when you win a cup final, or crying your eyes out when you concede that late goal which end up in relegation. The term Manager is only a title. In reality, we are just dedicated fans, who are dedicated to the club.

Press: Rochdale finnished 6th last year. What are your plans for the coming season.

O'Grady: I
[/FONT]
Don’t have a plan for next season. I could tell you my plan for game week 1 though. And that’s to win! I take each game as it comes, I don’t believe in planning on results that are yet to be gotten.

Press: Its now pree-season. Do you have any transfers in mind or are you happy with your current squad?

O'Grady: (Laughs) do I have any transfers in mind. The club has given me a €0 transfer budget and little over €2k as a wage budget. I might look to bring in a few people in on loan but I won’t be making any signings until funds become available.

Press: Do you have any plans for the club. Any long term goal you wish to set for the players?

O'Grady: Well, the best this club has ever done was a 9th place finnish in League 1 back in 1970. My first task will be to get the squad in resonable shape to fight for promotion and then next year, see if we can beat that record.

Press: What is your approach to cup games? Will they be as important as League games for you?

O'Grady: The League will defiantly be taking priority. We can compete in the cup competitions, regardless of what division we find ourselves in. I will be using the cup games to give the youngsters a run out, while the first team concentrates on getting the club points, moving us up the table.

Press: For a first time manager, you seem prety confident. Are you nervous?

O'Grady: Yes. But to be honest, I’m more excited than nervous really. This is a great opportunity for me. While many look at this club as a mid table, League 2 team. I see a chance to but Rochdale on the map. We have an empty trophy cabinet that is just waiting to be filled, and I intend to do just that.

Press: What have you planned for pree-season?

O'Grady: Well on monday, we have Celtic coming down as part of our anual Friendly.. Then we host Oldham befor we travel to Rawtenstall to play Rossendale.
Im looking to try out a few formations and give all players a run out to see what i have in terms of depth in the squad. I want to see what the players can do should i need to change things.

Press: Well Mr. O'Grady, Thank you very much for your time. We wish you good luck in your Managerial Career.

It will be tough to match their exploits IRL, Good luck.

They got a good result yesterday. Good luck matey and nice layout

Good luck.
I too enjoy the layout, but you might want to change the green color for the text in the press conferences - it's a bit painful to read.
Other than that, I'm looking forward to more.

Success in September?

After a fairly uneventful pre-season, Rochdale set to open their campaign with a win away against Port Vale. The host were expected to win this match comfortably but a 62 minute strike by Rochdale's John Shaw put the away side in front with little over half an hour to go. This victory came with a price however, Kenny Arthur (1st choice keeper) was injured and will be sidelined for at least 3 weeks.

Fixtures:
League 2: Port Vale 0 - 1 Rochdale [John Shaw, 62mins]
Carling Cup: Derby County 1 - 0 Rochdale [Miles Addidon, 7mins]
League 2: Rochdale 1 - 0 Aldershot. [Will Buckley, 43mins]
League 2: Rochdale 1 - 3 Cheltenham [Chris Dagnall, 25mins] [Michael Pook, 14mins. David Hutton, 22mins. Barry Hayles, 67mins]
League 2: Rotherham 4 - 1 Rochdale [Tom Pope, 17mins. Stephen, 27mins, 45+1mins. Ciaran Clark, 33mins] [Jason Kennedy, 37mins]
League 2: Rochdale 1 - 0 Bury [Chris Dagnall, 20mins]

January at Spotland
ravenp20091209171504.jpg

After a great start to the season, O'Grady declared his interest in the League 2 title after a string of good results. A 9 game unbeaten run in September and October put Rochdale in 2nd position, 5 points behind league leaders Notts County.

C_71_article_1186964_image_list_image_list_item_0_image.jpg

After a 2-0 loss to Grimsby at home, Rochdale could not seem to find a win from anywhere. Drawing 5 of their last 8 games, loosing the other 3. O'Grady was hoping that this was just a slump as Rochdale slid down the table to 6th position.

January proved to be a lukewarm month at Spotland, taking 4 from a possible 12 points, leaving Rochdale in 5th position coming into February.

Dreams of playing in League 1 will have to be kept alive for another season. Rochdale finished 11th in Coca Cola League 2. The 2009/2010 season was a campaign full of mixed results, lack of consistency being the ultimate factor in their failure to achieve a play-off spot.

Home Form:
Played - 23. Won - 12. Drew - 5. Lost - 6
Away Form:
Played - 23. Won - 7. Drew - 6. Lost - 10

An end of season press conference has been called at Spotland to hear O'Gradys thoughts on this season gone by.

Press: 11th place in League 2, not a terrible final place but I am sure you would have been aiming higher.

O'Grady: Yes, I was aiming for a play-off spot at least but I am pleased with the results so far this season. While we may not have achieved our goal of promotion, we stayed well out of reach of relegation so we are confident we have what it takes to compete at this level.

Press: So what are you plans for next season?

O'Grady:
The same as my plans for any season take each game as it comes and try to win it.

Press: Do you have any transfer targets in mind for next season?

O'Grady:
I have a few yes. I’m expecting to see 4-5 departures from the club, in areas like defence and midfield, I have too many options so I’m going to allow them to leave should they decide 1st team football is what they want.
