Rotherham United
For this story i am taking up the ultimate challenge. To bring a club from League 2 all the way through to the Premier League and beyond. I chose Rotherham because they didnt have any debt and i hope to build on that by building up the club on and off the pitch.
Here is some relevant information about RUFC.
Founded in 1884 they are celebrating their 125th anniversary year. Their nickname is the Millers and they play at a 25,000 all seater stadium which is named The ProStar Stadium. They have good training facilities and an average youth set-up. The chairman is enjoying life at the club which is valued at £1.9m. The media is predicting a 5th place finish so the expectation is promotion. I have a transfer budget of £50k and a wage budget of £21k per week. With that my story begins...

Saunt adds to backroom team
New Rotherham manager Chris Saunt has added to the backroom staff at his new club. He has brought Russell Clash to the club as a Fitness Coach from Aldershot Town. The club previously didnt have a Fitness Coach so a very sensible move from the boss despite using most of the Transfer Budget paying a £40k compensatin package. He has also brought in Jeff Lee who was relesed from Lincoln City in 2009. Lee will add to the scouting team and has been assigned to scout League 2. Previously Rotherham only had 1 scout.

Leicester announce link with Rotherham
Leicester City have today announced a link with Rotherham. The partnership will mean Leicester can send players on loan to Rotherham with the Foxes paying the players wage. Rotherham can also host an annual friendly with all profits going to Rotherham. Leicester will pay £36.59k for the afiliate link.

Pre-Season Results

Pre-Season has been a very successful build up for the new campaign. 6 wins from 6 games with the most impressive result being against League 1 side Southend. Chris Saunt said after that game "Well its a 100% start, Im very impressed with the squad i inherted from the previous manager. Along with my captures in the transfer market i am confident of promotion this year but its too early to say that for sure. Ian Sharps in the defence has really impressed, He is a fantastic aerial presence both defending and attacking.

August 2009

League Two
Rotherham 2 - 1 Accrington

(Law, Pope)
A confident start from the Millers. Nicky Law scored a sensation strike from 20 yards to put Rotherham infront. Accrington equalised before half time to send the two teams in level. Accrington were outplayed in the second half and Rotherham got the winner from a Tom Pope header not long before the end. Played 1 Won 1 for Chris Saunt

League Cup 1st Round
Nottm Forest 3 - 2 Rotherham

(Sharps, Fenton)
A dissapointing start to this game when goalkeeper Warrington got caught with the ball at the edge of his box and Dele Adebola nicked in to score. Rotherham were looking the better side in the first half and Ian Sharps headed in a corner to put them level. 2 Goals straight after half time could have ment the game was won but Rotherham got back in it from Nick Fenton and could have eqalised again on a number of occasions in the last 10 minutes and in a goal mouth scramble in the dying seconds Topp, Warne and Chambers all missed chances in a dramatic finish. Rotherham gave a real good account for themselves but just came up short.

League 2
Bournemouth 1 - 2 Rotherham

(Law (pen), Broughton)
Another narrow win in the league for Rotherman. 1-0 up from a Nicky Law penalty looked to have put them infront for the break but Bournemouth leveled in stoppage time of the first half through Brett Pitman. Rotherham dominated and the winning goal came through Drewe Broughton. Saunt elated after the game said "We have got a selection of striking options and im delighted the impact Drewe made when i brought him on. If Popey doesnt get you then Broughton will. Theyre the big men what will cause havoc for teams in this league but we also have Le Fondre, Chambers and ***** Topp who can go upfront as well".

League 2
Grimsby 0 - 0 Rotherham

A even game ended with a predictable tuesday night bore draw. Its unfortunate for Rotherham as they probably edged the game but Grimsby defended well and deserved a point.

League 2
Rotherham 1 - 2 Rochdale

What a strange game football is. The Millers went infront from Drewe Broughton but then went on to concede 3 penalty kicks in which Tom Kennedy scored 2 of them for Rochdale. Nick Fenton fouled for the first and Drewe Broughton fouled for the other 2 penalties when he came back to defend corners. Rotherham need to forget all about this match and focus on winning the next game.

League 2
Macclesfield 0 - 3 Rotherham

(Sharps, Mills 2)
A superb away trip for Rotherham fans, Back to winning ways after the bizarre game against Rochdale. Ian Sharps was yet again a real threat coming up for corners. He scored the first goal and Rotherham went from strength to strength from there. Pablo Mills scored from the next corner kick and troubled Macclesfield had it all to do. Pablo Mills scored a picture book thumper from 20 yards to round off the scoring.

So an excellent start for Rotherham. 5th in the table and only 2 points away from early pace setters Morecambe. The Millers are firing from all areas. Two dangerous center-halves pose a threat from corners and with the striking variety it seems Rotherham are really well equipped to have a fantastic anniversary year. If they can keep this up through September it will certainly be a good base to build on for promotion.

Player of the Month - Ian Sharps
