It is yet another amazing chapter in the story of Sheikh Mansour's footballing obsession as he has announced a partnership with San Marino Calcio's owner Luciano Capicchioni and chairman Luca Mancini with the goal of making San Marino a footballing powerhouse in not only Italian football, but also in European football as well. The official statement on San Marino Calcio's official website read, "We are delighted to announce an partnership with Sheikh Mansour. This is an important step in making San Marino Calcio a big football club. Mr. Mansour is ecstatic to be part of another football club after gaining experience with Manchester City and it is certainly a proud moment as we have acquired one of the best businessmen in the world. Proudly and sincerely, Luciano Capicchioni."

It is not yet known what the deal entails, but it is the general consensus that San Marino Calcio is now at least 50% owned by Mansour and that the club has received a cash injection though it is to be seen how much exactly has been pumped into the club. Stay tuned as we will keep you up to date here at La Gazzetta on the situation unfolding at San Marino Calcio.

2013/2014 Review

Let's look around Europe and see what has happened.

ENGLAND

It has been a rather interesting season in the Premier League as Manchester United have retained their crown with David Moyes at the helm. Just behind them by only three points were Jose Mourinho's Chelsea whose main star for the season was Samuel Eto'o with 21 goals to grab second place in the scoring charts. I predict that they will come back with a vengeance and grab the title in 2015 though. Again by just three points were Manchester City who had AVB at the helm. They will be looking to build on their season next year after a turbulent season in which Manuel Pelligrini left and went to Liverpool who surprisingly only finished a paltry 9th after the sacking of Brendan Rodgers. Other then that Norwich won the Capital One Cup and Chelsea won the FA Cup. In terms of relegation, Cardiff City are back in the Championship after just one season in the Premier League. Sunderland could not survive even with the help of world-class coach Di Canio in the summer before the season. Lastly, West Ham went down again after only two seasons back at the top of English football.

In England's second tier, it was Birmingham City who won the league thus gaining automatic promotion into the Premier League for the next season. Wigan finished runners up by 3 points and Reading won the playoffs to secure promotion back to the Premier League after being relegated the season before. On the side of relegation, Bolton finished in last place and are now going to play League 1 football while Ipswich also went down with newly promoted Yeovil Town.

It was the same old domination of Barcelona and Real Madrid again in La Liga this year as Barcelona won the league by two points and the closest team to Real Madrid, Athletico, only managed to finish 12 points behind the runners up. Messi led the scoring chart yet again with 28 while surprisingly Youssef El Arabi was able to finish in close second with 27 goals and surely top clubs in Europe are now looking to sign him. Villarreal, Almeria, and Rayo Vallecano have been relegated.

France

It was the miracle of Marseille as the southern club did the unthinkable and beat not only moneybags Monaco, but also PSG to their first Ligue 1 title since 2010.

Italy

It was Juventus and AC Milan who fought for the schudetto and everyone else was pretty much out of it.

Germany

Bayern Munich need I say more lol. On another note though Hoffenheim qualified for the Champions League playoffs surprisingly.

That is it for the summary I will do one of these after every season. Please let me know if it is too text heavy.

How Did San Marino Do?

So before I let everyone know how San Marino did, I want to explain the origin of the story and the concept. Basically I was sitting one day and said to myself "why won't I inject some cash into a club and holiday and see how things go". I decided on San Marino as it could also help the national team which intrigued me, so here I am!

Now the concept of the story is like this: I took over Manchester City, signed 5 San Marino players (horrible ones) for 125 million pounds all together, most of it over 4 years, and resigned. Now I am holidaying and seeing how San Marino does and if I feel it is necessary or I just feel like it, I will retire my holiday manager and create a new one in which I will take over both San Marino Calcio and the NT.

Before anyone says so if I take over and complete the main components of the challenge (won the CL and WC) I will not take complete credit as I am cheating with the cash injection, but this is for a bit of fun and just something new overall in regards to San Marino related saves.

Now let's take a look at the club info and facilities.

No changes to facilities even with the money invested.

Now getting to what everyone wants to know (of course), how did San Marino do in 2013/2014?

View attachment 451583

Well the answer is not good at all (I only loaded up to Serie C1 hence no relegation positions, Italy is grayed out when I try to load C2, so I will see what I can do for the 2015/2016 season).

San Marino Transfers 2013/2014

As you can see 125 million has been invested, mostly over 48 months and no transfers have been made yet. All in all, transfers will be needed to push for promotion into Serie B. Fernando de Argila's (current San Marino manager) job security is stable even after the mediocre season and has a lot of work to do in the transfer market imo.

We'll see how San Marino does in 2014/2015 and if you have any feedback please let me know, thank you.

It was a season of high hopes for the moneybags San Marino, but how did the season go?

View attachment 451535

The answer is not bad, but still not in Serie B! The team spent 2.16 million pounds on largely average Italian players and struggled to even finish seventh. Fernando must do better than this if San Marino Calcio are to ever get to Serie B. To make it even worse, the team has not even upgraded their facilities yet!!!

Here are the transfers from the summer before the season began

As far as I can tell the problem this season has probably been the lack of time for the team to gel as a result of many of the signings taking place on deadline day.

The Manager

View attachment 451533

To put it bluntly, San Marino needs a new manager. This guy simply does not know what he is doing and his contract is something that I find interesting. The board do not seem to have much confidence in him and it took until mid June, 2 weeks before his deal was due to expire that the board offered him only a 1 year extension. Maybe I am being too harsh, but then again it may have to be the the legend himself who leads San Marino Calcio to glory...

Next up, the 2015/2016 review and if anything else interesting pops up, I will be sure to screen it and update you guys.
