sry for stupid question but when using the editor how can you save the new database only option there is to save editor data and that does is create a text file, the ones you download from here are all .dbm files

any help pls

When you press 'save editor data' it should save the file as a .xml or .dbc file

so are these 2 files the same? as when i select save data editor as....the only option i get to change is the name of the file not its extension

I don't have the program on my work PC, but at the top (next to file) there is an option to change it to compressed files

ah

so a DBC is a compressed database file a txt is a un compressed file?

There are no text files related to database editing. The uncompressed file format is an XML file and the compressed file is a DBC file, which is basically the XML file just compressed with zlib and an extra header added.
