I about to start a new save with Schalke...

what players should i let go? What players should I bring in? What's the best style of play, formation etc

also what are the rules in the league? How many German players need to be in the squad etc

I just started a save with schalke 04 (my first load in fm14) to play a 4-4-2. I did buy Alan (brazilian guy playing in swiss i think) and he banged atleast 1 goal and/or assist in the pre-games and first cup match. I play him as F9 and the hunter as Poacher (dunno if it's good combo since it's my first time playing 4-4-2, but they're banging in alot of goals).

I'd play a system with wingers and abuse klaas-jan Huntelaar because he's a boss aswell. You might want to strengthen your wingbacks because in depth ur really thin there, further imo the squad is decent filled with good youth also.

You might have to watch out on who your splashing ur cash on because you have a very small transfer budget and players would want pretty high wages when joining you. Also i noticed when i splashed all my cash the club wanted to start paying of their debts and paying about 1.7m per month? (can't really remember) so you might have to sell some high wages. In my game Farfan was wanted by Chelsea but sadly he got injured so couldn't sell him yet. You could maybe also put some talent on loan who won't be ur first 2 choice.

Also i'd invest alot in young/cheap trainers. You have very few staff and you should be able to find pretty easily and cheap 4 star staff and scouts. Imo your AssMan is pretty good already so no need to replace him.

I've been at work all day so I've just summed my first season, finished 3rd with bayern winning the league and Dortmund second and then I was 8points behind.

Im thinking of selling Jefferson farfan but I'm struggling to find an out and out winger to replace him.

ive got a transfer budget of 18million

im im looking to improve

goalkeeper
left back/ right back
maybe central midfield

and I'm looking for a lot of young German players for the future

help please :P

GK: Timo Horn
LB:Florian Harthetz
RB:Christian Trasch
CM/DM: Nico Schulz/Yiannick Gebhardt

I'd also look to correct the imbalance upfront cos other than Huntelaar you dont have anybody else who is reliable. Id look to maybe sell Farfan and bring in most (if not all) of:

Mitrovic/Kevin Volland/Timo Werner.

Frickson Erazo will cost only 350k and will be solid defensive backup.

Zuculini is a free wonderkid and awesome from the start.

I sold Farfan right at the start in my 1st season, he's mediocre on high wages. Plus Chelsea are happy to pay around 30 Million for him straight off the bat, so you can secure your finances plus re-invest in the squad. Honestly Clemens performs very well for me on the right wing, 7+ every game and chipping in with goals and assists, must have a good Consistency stat. An ideal german right winger is obviously Reus, but good luck getting him. Take a look at Patrick Herrman, though he's quite similar to Clemens.

I had the same problem as you, couldn't find a player I liked/wanted to play on the right wing, I just stuck it out with Clemens/Meyer rotating until I found a regen who could easily be the next Ronaldo.

GK to look at - Casteels, Kraft, Trapp, Ter Stegen (Expensive), Valdes on a free. One of the various french GK's that get are without a club after first season.
LB/RB - Sakai, Ricardo Rodriguez, Sebastien Corchia, Montoya
CM - Milan Badelj, Lucas Romero, Andre Martins, Lerin Duarte.

Some of those are fairly expensive. Also depending on if they've moved in the previous windows they may be unavailable. I also sold Huntelaar at the end of the 1st season for 14 Million to Real Madrid as I couldn't get him regularly scoring, bought Mitrovic for 8.5 Million and he's been incredible. Another option might be Kolbein Sigborsson from Ajax, always scored goals in my saves and shouldn't cost much. Good Luck.
