Morning folks, I'm currently about ten years down the line in an effort to make Ireland into a footballing world force, don't we love the realms of fantasy?
Anywho, I'm managing Shelbourne & Ireland currently and I have developed Shelbourne into a powerful European team (ranked 33rd this season, next highest Irish team...265th fml) with a number of players brought in following release by teams in England & Germany. These 7 or 8 players have now been in Ireland for 6+ years and are all eligible for Irish nationality, but none of them are taking it up as they see no benefit.
My real concern is that I have a wealth of Irish attacking talent but a very old defence and very little evident quality coming through the Irish youth system. But I have some very good 25-27 year old English and German defenders who will never play for their countries but don't fancy getting an Irish passport!
The question I want to ask is will this change if Ireland increase their reputation with strong international performances or am I on a hiding to nothing?
