Second season issue

I started playing the demo with Chelmsford in Blue Square South and led them to winning the league after buying the game. The next season I didn't get promoted and the season never started. It is currently October 1st and the only games I've played are for the FA Cup. I at first assumed that maybe the season started later, but that is clearly not the case. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Or did my game just completely mess up one me?
