Disclaimer:
This text is based on setting up a balanced attack, no fancy ideas some of you might have.
So, every balanced attack consist of a number nine, who is your designated goalscorer, a number ten that is supposed to create chances and winger(s).
Possible number nines:
Poacher - attack
Advanced forward - attack
Target man - attack
Complete forward - attack
Inside forward - attack
Deep lying forward - attack
Shadow striker - attack
Attacking midfielder - attack
Possible number tens:
Target man - support
Complete forward - support
Defensive forward - support or defend
Deep lying forward - support
Inside forward - support
Advanced playmaker - support or attack
Attacking midfielder - support
Enganche - attack
False nine - support
Trequartista - attack
So, combine number nine with number ten, and add wingers (depending on your formation, preferably on attack duty). Wingers are all other roles not mentioned above. In a case of narrow play, it may be advantageous to use two inside forwards, or in a case of wide play, two wingers.
If thinking of using penetration options in team settings you shouldn't forget that this will make him make more runs from deep to get on the end of passess. So if exploiting the middle, a player that is supposed to drop deep isn't suitable to this. If exploiting the flanks, your wide players will position themselves wider and try to run wide, so you should make sure you don't assign this to players supposed to cut inside. If using overlaps, your sidebacks will position themselves wider, further away from your defence, so you should make sure you close down the empty space.
