I am liverpool just started a new game on patch 11.3 and in all my other games as well as this I am producing 20+ shots a game and producing 1 or 2 goals whereas the opposition will have 5-10 shots max and score the same if not more than me. it is driving me crazy on every new game i start. any help please?!?!

well currently at liverpool they are ranging 13-16, bad i know but some games im producing 30 shots and 2 goals

Are your players able to get the ball into the box? Do your players try to shoot from good positions? Do they get off their markers? Watch the games, see what shots they're trying. Analyze if those are good shots and why they aren't, then think what changes to the tactic you can do so they will try less of the bad shots. I.e. if your players keep passing the ball before the defense and shoot from large distance, them make their game faster, if they never get a decent through ball because the defense is such that those passing lines are crowded make them use the flanks more for crosses, etc.

In fact, I would say: producing many shots is a sign that the team is playing too hurriedly and shooting too soon. So most likely your solution would be in the way of playing more slow and taking a bit more time to move the ball and move the opposition's defence.

I currently average about 5 shots to a goal. I have one tactic thats about 3 shots to a goal aswell.
All depends if your players do many long shots...

They tend to score 1-3 very quickly on mine, within a shot or two of each other.
Then it can drop to 7-8 shots between each goal, it's nothing too bad IMO.

Was reading somthing few years back about the 06/07 season I believe best shots to goals ratio was 5.2 rest ranged from 6.6 to 17.5.
So I wouldn't really worry about it, aslong as you're scoring.

Shots is not everything. Clear cut chances and good quality opportunities are. You can have five shots at goal and if all of them are CCC you will probably score 3/5 of them depending on the quality of your striker. Whereas from say 20-30 yards it is much less likely that you will score, whatever player it is. You get players like Robben who constantly waste possesion with long shots and only end up scoring 1/10 from range.

The computer score so much easier anyway, even when your defence is solid they will score a corner or a throw in or a freekick, so gay. Player often stand still from throw ins.

Change your match preparation to defensive position then and defending set pieces.

Try 'Work Ball Into Box' and not having your players shooting from long range. Also ask you strikers to place their shots.

Not entirely related, but I always find it funny when the striker who hasn't scored for 999 minutes scores against me with his first shot of the game.

If your players tend to slack off against weaker teams an/or have a low concentration stat, this could very well be the reason.

Agreed.... Sometimes I just want to smash my screen because of this

yeah and its mostly set piece goals, unreal penalties or every single player has to score their first goal of the season or debut goal against u,

Jesus! I was going to say scoring 4 against Spain is pretty good going, but then you totally dominated the game and conceded 5. So I can only assume your defense is weak, or is this a one off?

wouldnt call that total domination. would love to see just how many of those 17 were very good chances. looks like he was taking lots of shots very quickly, and i'm betting spain hit him on the counter, needs to slow the game down ,control it

Sorry I misread it, I thought he had a lot more possession, but I was looking at the shots on target graph. It would be good to see how many were long shots as well.

Actually, I would rate a match by the shots made thus:

0-4 Pretty poor
5-9 Decent
10-13 Good
13-16 Very good
17-19 Good
20-22 Decent
23+ Very poor.

What those stats tell is that England had a poor game in which they shot without any reason or sense and got lucky enough to get 4 goals, while Spain played with great head and knowing what they were doing, exploiting numerical superiority in counterattacks and having the needed patience to build their chances.

The result was a just one, Spain deserved to win. Or at least England didn't earn the victory.

Unfortunately I didn't take a screenshot, but a funny past experience in FM10 was defeating the AI team without any shot on target XD. I won 1-0, I think it was with my Burgos in La Liga, the goal was one of those flukes, a cross bounced and got in the net. I had 5 shots, 0 on target, 36% possession, AI 64% possession, 23 shots and 11 on target.

Let me show a few screenies:

FM10, my recently promoted Burgos vs Real Madrid:

FM10, my Burgos vs Barcelona the same season:

These two coming are from FM09 and they're fun because it's the AI that whines about this very same issue:

And two to show it can be done in FM11 as well:

imo poachers are you best bet for scoring my villa has 14 goals in 9 games for me :D
