Signing a player to a Designated Player (DP) Contract in MLS

Hey guys I'm playing FM 2010 with the most recent update installed. I'm currently managing the Seattle Sounders FC in MLS and am looking to sign a designated player because I sold Freddie Ljungberg. For some reason when I try to buy a relatively expensive player, it never gives me an option to offer them wages out of the salary cap. Could someone help me out and give me instructions on how to sign a designated player????
