Single striker formation, weak PL team

I'm currently playing with Middlesbrough and i'm in my second season in the Premier League. No matter what formation I use, my defense is leaking and i've conceded ~20 goals in 5 games now.
Any tips?

If single striker, make sure either the attacking third is packed with numbers or there are enough people making runs into attacking third otherwise the striker wont even touch it.

I played leeds with

cwb support---hb-------cwb supoort
----------def --- def----

Was succesful for me. Tried with sole striker and ended up too isolated to provide enough threat.

Get rid of that marco fellow at the goal first...he was my main problem while I was managing Leeds. Also, don't buy any Marco, Marko, Marcus or Mark named people. They all seem to score against me, no matter if they are in mine or opponents team.
