Breaking News

St Mirren have sensationally been taken-over by an Indian consortium, headed by billionaire Mukesh Ambani and appointed Andy Potter as manager.

The new owner Mukesh Ambani said "I have been looking around to buy a football club and St Mirren caught my eye because they were already for sale and they are the only SPL team to have no debt which is very rare these days. I will put in any money needed by the manager but I also must consider the future of the club if things went wrong. Therefore, the previous owners put a clause in my deal stating that when I leave the club, I must pay off every penny of debt accumulated over my time at the club. I aim to help this club achieve immediate success and to do that, I will provide the funds to do so. Since we are favourites for relegation to First Division, I don't expect us to attract World Class players but a step above the previous standard of player."

New manager Andy Potter said "I am very happy to be part of this project, I think I can do a good job here. The club has great history and I'm very glad to be a part of it. I want to bring European nights back to St Mirren Park in the long term but in the short term, I want to get as high in the league as possible."

Buddies sign Kenneth

Big spending St Mirren have signed Scotland international defender Garry Kenneth from Dundee United for £2.5m, Kenneth was a target for Birmingham City but he has opted to stay in the SPL with the Saints. This deal is St Mirren's record transfer, with the previous record just £400k after purchasing Thomas Stickroth from Bayer Uerdingen many years ago.

Manager Andy Potter said "This is a major coup for St Mirren, I hope this signing can convince other players that we are aiming for a successful season. Garry is a fantastic defender and will be a star in years to come, I am delighted that he has signed."
"We are also in talks with other players but all will be revealed as things move on."

Potter: We can mount league challenge

St Mirren manager Andy Potter insists St Mirren are realistic contenders for the league title this season. The Buddies have splashed out several millions of pounds strengthening their squad and manager Andy Potter said "I believe with the right work ethic and total all round hard work, we can earn a Champions League place. We have now got top quality players and we will aim to break up the Old Firm this season."
He added "I have been surprised at the calibre of player we have been able to attract this season, for that reason, we can attract bigger and bigger players as time goes on."
Potter replied "No comment" when he was asked if giant striker Peter Crouch was to join the club.

St Mirren, who are loaded with cash are also in negotiations with England and Tottenham beanpole striker Peter Crouch, Tottenham have accepted a £15m bid and Crouch is now negotiation personal terms, a deal is thought to be very close.

Good start against Elgin although they are a lower league side. Very disappointed that we drew our first two games but I think the break against lower league Brechin gave us a jump-start. Good result against Kilmarnock.

September Results

St Mirren 2-0 St Johnstone

(Buaben, Stokes)

St Mirren 0-2 Hibs

(Benjelloun x2)

St Mirren 5-1 Celtic

(Crouch x2, Ross, Stokes, Buaben)

Month's thoughts

Good to follow August with a win against the Fakes, but our first defeat was very, very disappointing, we couldn't put a pass together and I got rattled into the team at the end of the game but defended them in the press and that looks like it's done the trick. Excellent result against Celtic as we beat them by four goals.
