So I'm going to throw up the scenario I'm in on my game, and I want to hear your opinions on whether it was a good thing or a bad thing.

I'm a small Greek club that got to the super league after the first season. We started with a club value of about 1 million USD, and a stadium for roughly 5,000 people.

My first season in the Greek superleague saw me win the Greek Cup, and come in 4th in the league (at times I was #1). My transfer and wage budget at the time totaled about 7 million, and was able to pick up a couple of good superleague players.

After that season my board announced a stadium expansion of 1,500 seats for 3.7 million USD. My club value at the time is 12.5-13 million USD (fluctuates). Subsequently, due to this 3.7 million being put into a stadium, my total budget only raised to 8 million, leaving me almost no room to add any good players.

In your opinion, are the added seats a good idea by the board, or a curse in disguise? Thanks for reading.

i guess they figure you have the players to replicate the results and more fans in the stadium means more revenue so eventually the stadium should pay for it self

They'd take out a loan mate.

Your encouraging me to try a really random country on FM!

Stadium expansion in general is a good thing, but in your case considering the league you are in and the size of the stadium it doesn't make much of a difference in income. But if you can keep your finances under control and stay competitive then in after a couple of seasons the odds for a new stadium are quite good. Now a 20-30 000 seat stadium will make a huge difference. On my current game when I was at Panathinaikos after the completion of their new stadium and then expanding it the next season my finances were wonderful and after I left they are still a major force in Europe and are improving every year.

That's what I thought about the players. However I lucked into a couple wins against top Greek sides early in the season which gave me a 12 point boost later in the season. The Greek Cup win was mind boggling since I went through PAOK and Panathinaikos, only to take on a lower league team for the title.

But what is 1,500 seats? An extra 30,000 dollars a game? I mean I know if we did a 3,000 seat expansion it would cost half of my club value. I think they should have held off for when we had more secure finances.

and one of the worst parts is, this expansion made my board forget about their promise to improve Youth and training facilities. I assumed they would be a part of the expansion, but I requested improving them again and they said they would look into it.

hmmmm well that has me stumped, and you make a valid point about the limited seating addition. i would maybe try to upgrade the youth and training facilities like you were doing so you can produce some good young kids and sell a few on for good money

well, they just finished upgrading my training and youth facilities. I thought they scrapped the idea since they said they would look into instead of saying "we are already building it" like they usually do.

well, my board is planning a 2,000 seat expansion after my last season. Our loan debt is now about 35% of my clubs value. Not the best numbers. I'm afraid this transfer market will be just as uneventful. My young stars will be begging for improved contracts that I won't be able to afford.

You could try getting them on part time contracts which would mean less salary but most times would mean they will reject though and another option is trying to sell some on which will maybe reduce the debt a bit only the players you know you won't use very often.

Can you just let us know which small greek club are you btw lol

Panaitolikos. AKA the canaries. Came in second in Superleague and am grateful for the expansions, but I'd rather do 5,000 seats all at once, than small 1,500 expansions over a couple years choking my money.

My Value is 11.5 USD loan debt is 4.5.

My budget is like 9 million, so I don't see it increasing despite back to back Euro cup qualifications.

However I've noticed the owner is losing interest in the club. He says he is happy to stay, but it has gone down from Loves club and the one below that. I figure a takeover may not be far off. I may have to stick around for that instead of jumping to a team that can sign more non EU players.
