Okay, I'm starting my fourth game in charge as Liverpool. The first two were utter disasters and I was fired before christmas. I started very positively on the third, winning many games in the first half of the season but was then fired finishing 11th after a complete divebomb and going 11 games without a win.
Some of you may have seen my earlier post about poor performing strikers. Suarez finished the season on 6.31avr and Sturridge on 6.4, leaving me to rely on Aspas for most of my goals (he bagged 10 in PL). The amount of times (especially on this last save) Sturridge and Suarez were 1on1 and still skied the ball nearly had me chucking my laptop out of the window.
The tactics I used were a balanced/control 4-1-2-1-2 utilising wing backs and possession play, and a 4-2-2-2 using wingers and a fluid/attacking, with high tempo and lots of direct passing. I had great success using both at the start of the season, although obviously I experimented with some tweaks to no avail when results started slipping away and we literally could not score goals as the season progressed. As mentioned, the amount of crystal clear chances blown by Sturridge and Suarez was laughable. Ever get that feeling the game is just trying to **** you off? One consolation is that my defence always played very well, even if Mignolet didn't (eventually dropped him for Jones, albeit like 5 games before I was sacked). Aside from one game, I never lost by more than 2 goals.
As convinced as I was that my tactics sucked, it seemed that this game I'd often run out with 15+ shots and higher possession, but still narrowly lose the game. The finishing of my team was utterly awful and the oppositions keeper just always seemed to save absolutely everything. How do I turn my teams finishing around? I honestly cannot believe the avr ratings of Suarez and Sturridge. Its not that they weren't getting the chances, they just literally could not score!
