I'm in 2012 with Gil Vicente and I have Helder Postiga on a 3,600p/w contract ending this year. During pre-season I tried to renew his contract and he said he wasn't interested. Around September I decided I wasn't going to lose him on a free so transfer listed him and offered him out. Nobody made a bid and his status was "doesn't want to leave" for about a week.

I then took him off the transfer list as the window closed and tried again to extend his contract. He quite readily accepted a 3 year extension for 2,100p/w.

Did I really somehow strike fear into my star striker to the point where he took a big pay cut to stay? Or is it just the AI being wierd?

Seen similar things happen, players tend to accept much cheaper contract offers as their contract nears an end as well, especially in the last 3 months, but then you are risking someone poaching them on a free.
