Stuck in a must respond situation

hi, the game has me stuck in a situation where I 'must respond' by offer a contract to a player, but I can't offer him one as he has just accepted another clubs offer, anyone know how I can get round this as I cant cancel the offer and continue my game? Only option I can see at the moment is to start from my last save. Thanks
