Hello, never really contributed on this forum much so here goes!.....

Anyway looking to start making my own tactics whilst just starting my Chelsea career. Basically looking to play the 4-2-3-1 with Eto'o leading the line...... was there any tips anyone could give me on this?

Thanks

Yes prepare for lots of tears and hair pulling lol :D what I heard if u playing 4-2-3-1 make sure your mid/fielders ones a DLP and BBM help close the line with defense or a BWM should help :)

I would really make 3 tactics - 4-2-3-1 attacking for matches against low-table teams with attacking/control mentality; 4-3-3 with open triangle midfield for away tough matches, but with AML and AMR, counter-attacking presumably; 4-3-3 with flat midfield and AML-AMR when playing against opposition who is super strong in their midfield or simply play just through the middle with control mentality, I think.

The second thing is to make attacking band (Hazard, Oscar, etc) defend, so the wingers track back, AMC helps too. I don't have an idea about the striker, probably it would depend on the exact player - Eto'o would be a F9, while Torres could be DLF (to help in defence) or simply AF, but maybe even CF would do.

Central defenders should probably be on cover and stopper so it would reflect how Cahill and JT are playing at the moment (JT on the cover), but sometimes we can see that they are playing in the same way - like defend or cover duty for both - probably while playing a high line.

AML should be more ball-playing, involved in build-up and the AMR should be more direct, making runs behind the opp's back and so on.

It's hard to do these things in FM, I suppose, but maybe it'll work :D

I think the best options would be to somewhat emulate what they're doing IRL. Some sort of counter-attacking 4-2-3-1 and a more attacking 4-2-3-1 with higher pressing, maybe a 4-3-3 as an alternate shape for tough continental games? Only problem in counter-attacking is you might have to find a way around Eto'o's unremarkable hold-up play, but I think you can manage that.
