So, this is my first post here. Im not really new to fm, but this is the first time i need to ask for help, and i figured that there are many geniusses in here who could help.

I have been searching several forums and threads (not only on fm-base) but i can't find one which solves the problem for me.

Anyway ... I am managing St. Etienne in the french Ligue 1. I play 4-4-2 and overall it has been working fine. Up front i have the poacher/targetman combo. My poacher (paloschi) has been playing good, lots of goals, but my big guy (sanogo/babacar) - almost no goals, no assists.

The problem is that my wingers make flat crosses to my poacher instead of my targetman, and I don't know why. Crosses are set to float crosses, crosses: often, cross-aim: to targetman and supply to head. What should i do to make things right (player roles, etc.) I have tried several things, but nothing seems to work.
And if there is a thread about this (that i didn't find), please link to it!

cheers

ive been wondering this too, never have i been able to make a tactic using wingers and crossing to the head of a target man - never, ever works.

I've always wondered if doing this leads to the opposition learning how to mark the targetman better, giving him much less opportunity to head it, and thats why wingers pick out the other striker cause when they see the targetman marked and the poacher is less well marked, their intelligence tells them to cross to the player in a (marginally) better goalscoring position

or something like that

but my targetman are not around in front of goal when the cross comes ... how to fix that ?

put him on the highest attacking you can in player instruction, ask him nnot to come deep to get the ball?

and make sure the targetman is advanced targetman, not supporting targetman

thanks but i have already done that. he is nowhere near the goal though

I just want him to come flying into the small box when the cross come :)

lol alright....the only other thing i can think of is getting your wingers to cross from the by-line so he's got more time to get into the box, other than that look at the players prefered moves to see if there is anything detrimental on there

can i also say....this is why i NEVER use a target man lol... i always have a big strong good headerer as poacher or advanced forward....

P.S. think i might have invented the word 'headerer' lol

i will try that ...

this is also why i generally avoid teams with targetmen, i am never able to use them right.
but the guys were cheap and i had no choice but to buy them and try.

thanks for the suggestions though !

I personally leave the crossing alone and let the wingers make the choice themselves on how they see it. Cross from Byline and aim Mixed and the wingers (based on their decision attribute) will pick the best option, whether that be the poacher, target man or midfielder running from deep. It means that you aren't restricting your crossing to one specific method and you should get more goals from it

If the targetman plays, for example, in the left side of the area try to set crosses on near post coming from the left and to the far post coming from the right side and set floating crosses in squad settings. It worked for me.

Crossing towards the head didn't work for me either, but my tactic to play crosses into the running way of the target man is working nicely : tactic

Used it with maastricht initially and currently fighting for the title with it with AZ Alkmaar.
