TEAM THREAD: Playing Man City - A Discussion Thread

The aim with this first team thread is basically so that users can both give and ask for for hints as how to coach Man City and most important, their squad in 11.3. Before posting, please have a look through the thread as the question might already have been raised and the solution or at least a suggestion might lie under your very nose.

As we all know, the game is not only about tactics, setting up a strategy that suits the clubs stature and matching the players abilities, but also about man handling. If you have a question or a tip on how to handle a certain player, this is just as important. This is often a part that is forgotten

What about signings them, is this not something that we should discuss to ?. Well yes, any recommendations about players are most welcome. Perhaps the reason that user struggle with City is that they lack a certain player type but in the end , this thread will still be a support thread to those playing with the 11.3 squad so hints and tips as how to play City in 2013/14 after having signed 8 new players might not be of any use to anyone

To make this thread as in depth as possible, please try to follow these simple guidelines and hints

• When asking a question, the answer will only be as in depth as your question

- The more information you provide, the better the chance you will get a good answer with lots of reasoning

• When posting your strategy, please put in the effort to explain your reasoning behind it

- Why are you setting up Balotelli as a Defensive FC on support instead of a Poacher. Why are you using Silva as a more limited Box2box, giving him the first notch of little in creative freedom. Why are you using a very wide but short pitch. Just stating that it seems to work for me is rarely of any use to any user

• When using Screenshots, make sure that the language is in English

- Even if you like me are from Sweden, please make sure that when uploading screenshots, the language is in English. I have seen screens using polish and Russian and I did not get any of it, ont knowing if it was a creen for the attacker or the winger


When posting your strategy, please put in the effort to explain your reasoning behind it

Hi, im a big city fan but not a great manager on FM im competant but not half as good as the guys on here, anyways. I struugle to win several easy games, especially at home, i have loads of 0-0 results. I tend to play. Hart - (Srna) kompany lescott kolarov - Yaya Toure - (Hamsik) De Jong or Barry - (Farfan) Silva - Tevez. in a 4-1-2-2-1 type formation. de jong/barry as ball winning mc and hamsik as a advanced playmaker and tevez as a trequartisa. Can anyone suggest anything for me, maye new roles or pull a player out and play/sign someone else, or new formation. Anything will be much appreciated

Make sure the full/wing backs are attacking as with that formation they are the only real source of width. Also, you may need to push their mentalities up or down.

- If they are being too greedy and wasting opportunities, I would turn their mentality down.

- However, if they are not being offensive enough, turn their mentalities up.

- More long shots and creative freedom?

- You could play Dzeko as he is a bigger unit than Tevez. I would retrain Tevez as an AMC and play Dzeko up front in the long term.

- Make sure that the crosses are drilled and aimed at Tevez, as Tevez is not tall and will have trouble getting onto float crosses (if you are playing Tevez).

- Team talks will always help. Use 'You have faith' and 'For the fans', that helps me

- Make sure there is not more players attacking than there is defending.

- Darren Bent :wub: is very good to play as a poacher. 12 in 10 (Premier League) for me at the beginning of the season

Alright Lads,

Thinking about making a City save and was just wondering if you could recommend some tactics to use, player roles etc. and also if you could recommend any people who I should bring to the club and who I should get rid of..

hi mates,

This is the first time I have ever played the football manager series. I found it very interesting, and also so complicated. I am using Man city as it has so much transfer fund to spend to make the game more interesting. I have finished using the 75m which is given to me at the beginning. Is there any way to request more trasnfer fund during mid-season? I check there is an option, but I cant click it, thanks for helping in advance.
