team was complaining because of lack of disiplin why?

a few games ago after a match 5 of my players come out with "We are angry because of the lack of disiplin". to be honest right (I lost a knockout match penalties 1-4) now I feel like flogginng my players with a fishing rod but I cant do that.
are my players bringing this up because my team talks are not harsh enough?
even if I lose I do my best not to say "This is embarrasing".
should I be more harsh with team talks?

It's could be a could of things.
If a player is sent off and you don't warn him or fine him.
If a player has a poor game e.g 5 or lower again a chat or a warning for a poor game.
They are general things that as a manager you should address, have you been doing the above?

I always, if a player has a less then 6.5 rating in a match, tell him he's dissapointing and in my current save, up to 2019/20, not one of my players from three different clubs has complained of not having enough discipline.

I have been doing the above shane & if a player scores a goal & plays great I have a private chat "YOu impressed me last game". but recently I had won 10 games in a row & maybe forgot to chat with the odd individual that played bad.

A couple of my players complained about lack of discipline after I twice appealed bullshit redcards.

Then my team went on a bad streak, so I fined all the players 2 weeks wages...

They stopped complaining

losing by penalties have senarios.

1. if u lead and then gave upa goal whiched forced penalties, and lost, then say to them not good enought. use the angry mode only if ur players really played shiitty.

2. if u came from behind, and drew the game which forced penalties, and LOST, then say good effort. they atleast tried hard to tie the game somehow.

ok recently I've really been singling out players (Every game) if they play ****/good with examples: "You need to improve or you will find yourself on the bench" & "Step up your training or you will be sold" 1 after another.
Or "Your easily one of my best players"/ "you where good last game keep it up" & I have noticed a nice improvement but now I'm occasionally getting players responding with "I'm getting sick of you bringing this up" rooney especially.
when I lose and 3 or 1 player/player's perform 7.0 I say "I'm pleased" but for the rest of the team "Angry" (Target the goal keeper) & 6.5 or lower I individually say "Angry" / "Embarrassed" My team blend/harmony Morale has increased drastically & they have stopped ******** about discipline. my experience if you constantly keep communicating (common sense) with your players they will respond positively.

at 1st I honestly couldn't be stuffed chatting to my players because I thought as if it will make any difference but it will & you'll get used to it.

before I began to communicate with my players my morale/stats/discipline/cup hopes where going down the drain & I was on a poor run of 1 win from 5 games but as it stands I've won the devision.
