Hey, newbie to both this forum and the game.

Been playing as Hull in the prem for about 4 seasons, and have just started the 5th. Something which has plauged my team since the 4th season has been a defence which leaks far too many goals. They are infact leaking more goals than they were in my first season, which doesnt make sense since the players I have brought in are better. The lineup at the moment is this...

GK: Ben Foster
WBR: Steven Whittaker
DC: Steven Taylor
DC: Paul Scharner
WBL: Andy Dawson
DM: Kamil Zayatte
AMR: Bernard Mendy
AML: Andrew Surman
AMC: Abou Diaby
ST: Carlton Cole
ST: Roque Santa Cruz

They are playing a 442 diamond at the moment with a balanced philosophy and direct passing. The defensive line is deep and the width is fairly narrow, whilst the tempo is normal.

The players are good enough, and they have had plenty of time to gel, and their morale is high, so I just dont understand what is happening. What I have noticed is that the first few games of this season and the 4th season started out very well defensively. Then all of a sudden, the third game in or so, they suddenly forget how to do their job. And no lead is ever comfortable anymore, even 3-0 leads at halftime can be ruined and see us scraping a draw come the end of the game.

The defenders have individual instructions to mark tightly and only close down in their own area, and to never run with the ball or attack.

I am out of ideas, and I have had many. Need help.

Agree with the poster above. You play an extremely attacking formation and are vulnerable to both quick counter attacks and teams that approach is to gain possession in advanced positions. By just dropping the AMR/L into MR/L, you will find much better stability

If you dont want to change the formation, the yo simply have to raise the d.-line

instead of playind 2 DC with 2 wing backs put 4 at the back and push the DMC into AMC ?
